NH10 is a 2015 Indian crime thriller film directed by Navdeep Singh. It stars Anushka Sharma and Neil Bhoopalam in lead roles, and marks the production debut of Sharma. The film is co-produced by Phantom Films. It tells the story of a young couple whose road trip goes awry after an encounter with a group of violent criminals.

The film's title refers to the 403 km long National Highway 10 that starts from Delhi, passes through Haryana via Bahadurgarh, Rohtak, Hisar, Fatehabad, Sirsa and ends at the Pakistan border in Punjab. The film is a powerful social commentary on the plight of women in a male dominated society. The film was scheduled for release on 6 March 2015, however due to censoring issues with the Central Board it released on 13 March 2015.

Plot

Meera (Anushka Sharma) and Arjun (Neil Bhoopalam) are married professionals living in Gurgaon. When Meera walks out of a party late one night, she is suddenly attacked by a group of unknown men. Although she escapes by the skin of her teeth, the encounter leaves her traumatized. She gets a gun for protection. Arjun, partly blaming himself for not being there that night, tries to make up for it by treating her to a luxurious desert holiday on her birthday. As they stop at a Highway dhaba for lunch, they witness a young couple being relentlessly beaten by a group of hoodlums. Arjun chooses to step in, unaware of the danger that lies ahead of them. Upon seeing the SUV which took the couple, Arjun decides to intervene. It turns out to be a case of honor killing of the couple by the girl's brother (Darshan Kumaar) and his friends. Arjun witnesses the murders and he and Meera are caught by the killers. The movie is about the duo's struggle as the two of them find themselves cornered in a no man's land.

Theme

NH10 throws spotlight on the gruesome evil of honour killing that's known to be prevalent in certain parts of the North-Indian state of Haryana. It was the infamous Manoj-Babli honour killing case that finally exposed the evil at the national level. It was revealed that the honour killing of newlyweds Manoj Banwala and Babli was ordered by a Khap Panchayat in the Kaithal district of Haryana. In a landmark judgment, the five perpetrators were awarded death sentence for the inhumane act.[4]

Cast

Production

Shooting of the film began mid January, 2014 in Delhi.[5] The team shot in locations across the northern plains of India, such as Jodhpur where they experienced sandstorms.[6] The film's shooting was wrapped up in May and was scheduled for a September release, however the film is now scheduled to release on March 13, 2015.

The official trailer was launched at a suburban multiplex in Mumbai on 5 February 2015 in presence of the cast and producers.[7]

Release

The film released on 13 March 2015.
