5 Weddings

Synopsis

Directed by Namrata Singh Gujral, 5 Weddings is a slice of life drama and comedy. An American journalist travels to India for what she thinks will be an easy magazine feature on Bollywood weddings, only to have the assignment interrupted by an agenda driven cop, who is convinced there is journalistic espionage behind the innocent magazine article. As the coverage of Bollywood weddings unfolds, so does a colorful mosaic of lost loves, transgender tangles and culture clashes along the heartfelt journey of life, symbolized by the universal ups and downs of a wedding celebration. The film aspires to shed light on true blue Punjabi weddings but also the finer spiritual aspects of India, Punjab and Sikhism.

International cast includes Bo Derek of 10, Nargis Fakhri of Rockstar, Rajkummar Rao of Queen, Candy Clark of American Graffitti, Anneliese van der Pol of That's So Raven, Dawn Richard, Mariana Vicente]], Robert Palmer Watkins as Dillon Quartermaine of General Hospital, Suvinder Vicky of The Fourth Direction, Shiwani Saini of Sarbjit, Diljott, Saru Maini, Ravi Aneja and Darshan Aulakh.

Background

The film was initially set to be filmed in 2008 with Namrata Singh Gujral and Harbhajan Mann in the lead. Due to her ten year journey with cancer, Gujral ended up directing the film with Nargis Fakhri essaying the lead role of Shania Dhaliwal and Rajkummar Rao essaying the role of Harbhajan Singh.
