Dwarkadheesh – Bhagwaan Shree Krishna was a television series based on the adult life of the Hindu deity Krishna. It began airing on 4 July 2011 on Imagine TV at the 8 pm slot and was stopped abruptly midway with the shutdown of Imagine TV in April 2012. The series intended to show Krishna as a valiant lover; a master strategist; and an ideal brother, father, son, and king. Renowned composer Ravindra Jain composed the title song (sung by Anup Jalota) as well as music for the initial episodes. Afterwards the composer was replaced by music director-duo Sunny Bawra and Inder Bawra (Bawra Bros). The serial is produced by Sagar Pictures who are well known for their devotional serials of Bhagavan Ramachandra and Bhagavan Krishna: Ramayana and Sri Krishna respectively.

Plot

The series focused on Lord Krishna's adventures as the prince of Dwarka and on his relationships with his elder brother Balram, sister-in-law Revati, to-be wife Rukmini, etc.

The series followed Lord Krishna's life after he killed his evil uncle, demon-king Kans and became prince of Dwarka. It begins with Krishna engaging in battle with the wicked Kalyavan, an ally of king Jarasandh of Magadh, who has already lost 16 battles against Prince Krishna.

Dwarkadheesh – Bhagwaan Shree Krishna was distracted in its plot from the descriptions and sequence of Krishna's life, events as mentioned in Hindu scriptures (primarily Srimad Bhagwad Mahapuran). For example, the episode of Uddhava going to Vridavan and getting teaching of Bhakti from Gopis actually happened when Krishna was in Mathura (according to Srimad Bhagwad Mahapuran) but was shown in the serial when Krishna was in Dwarka. Srimad Bhagwad Mahapuran does not include any reference to Uddhava being accompanied by Sudama but the TV serial showed otherwise. Many other incidents and details also leave a student of Srimad Bhagwad Mahapuran and other Puranas in suspicion if they are mere fictions tales blended intelligently by script writers.

Overall the serial's direction was to give moral teachings to devotees of Krishna through his life events but the script heavily missed the details and chronological order of events in sync with Hindu scriptures.

Intentions

The show was intended to show the Vishvarupa of Lord Krishna but due to shutdown of Imagine TV, it could not do so. Sagar Arts tried to show the last moments of Lord Krishna and his return to Vaikuntha which they were unable to show in their previous show Shri Krishna.

Stoppage

Turner Broadcasting System decided to shut down their Hindi general entertainment channel; this programme was stopped due to the shutdown of Imagine TV. It had acquired the channel from NDTV in 2010. "Imagine TV has not performed and grown as per expectations. While some programmes delivered satisfactory ratings, overall the channel was unable to achieve the ratings consistency needed to sustain the business and support continued investment. As a result, Turner made the carefully considered decision to cease operations of the channel," so people are hoping for the come back.
