Ahluwalia is a Sikh clan from India. It originates from a 'misl' of the same name, derived from Ahlu, the ancestral village of the misl leaders. The Ahluwalia misl was one of the 12 major Sikh misls, and held land to the north of Sutlej river.[1]

The misl was founded by Sadho Singh,[1] (or Sadao), a Kalal or wine distiller.[2] Not all members of the misl were kalals. Many Ahluwalias were Rajputs from the Dhrubra sect, and some of these were mountain kings from the present-day Himachal Pradesh.[3][page needed] The Ahluwalia misl rose to prominence under Jassa Singh Ahluwalia.[1][4]

The clan produced the ruling dynasty of the princely state of the Maharajas of Kapurthala, a salute state in Punjab.
