Kuldeep Muralidhar Pai (born 9 January 1982), best known as Kuldeep Pai, is an Indian musician, composer, Carnatic music vocalist, music producer and YouTube celebrity.

Kuldeep is the first Indian Classical musician to utilize YouTube as a primary medium to infuse the abundance of Indian cultural heritage into the younger generations.

Kuldeep's videos are predominantly rendered and starred by children and are released under his own recording label, 'Chith'.

He has received multiple awards and honours, including the 'Social Harmony Award[1][2]' for his exemplary work in binding the nation in the field of music, arts and culture at the International Convention of Peacemakers for Universal Harmony in Goa.

His YouTube channel, 'Kuldeep M Pai' has a subscription of over 400,000 members and his videos have drawn more than 133 million views worldwide (as of Feb 2018). His channel has received the 'Silver play button' from YouTube.

Early Life & Background

Kuldeep Pai is a child prodigy, who, at the age of 3, enthralled the audience by identifying the corresponding swaras (musical notes) for all the songs played to him. His talent was discerned by his parents and they instantly initiated him into Carnatic music classes. Initially, he started learning lessons from Antony and then continued with Arun Kumar. He further continued his musical journey under the tutelage of Shamsudeen and was trained under him for a period of 10 years.

Kuldeep could also play the Harmonium at the tender age of 3. He started his vocal Carnatic stage concerts when he was seven years old.

Kuldeep Pai was born in Kochi, Kerala to G. Muralidhar Pai and V.S.Vijayakumari. He hails from Goud Saraswat Brahmin community and his mother tongue is Konkani.

Musical Career

Performances and contributions

Kuldeep Pai has established a prolific career as a Carnatic Vocalist[5][6] and has rendered stage concerts since his childhood days.

Kuldeep has also accompanied prominent singers like O.S Arun, S.Janaki, and Vani Jayaram on Harmonium for nearly 4 years ranging to 300 concerts. He has also vocalized for Classical dance performances[7] with senior artistes in the field and continued his rendition for almost eleven years. He has also provided vocal support for few Indian Jingles.

From 2015, he transposed his performances to web-based medium of presentations.

Thematic Presentation

Kuldeep is an 'Ashtavadhani'[8] in the music field who has proved his creativity and capability by commingling seven different instruments with his own voice.

Adviteeya[9] is a unique, experimental album by Kuldeep in Carnatic genre, where he has sung to his own accompaniments of 7 live instruments, playing Violin, Mridangam, Ghatam, Kanjira, Tabla, Harmonium and Melodica. This album[9] was released by his guru O.S.Thiagarajan on Nov. 22, 2006 in Chennai and singer S.Janaki received the first copy.

Music Director and Composer

Kuldeep Pai has composed and rendered four songs for a Switzerland based multi-lingual movie,“Madly in Love”. His compositions primarily accentuate the melodic arrangement of instruments and soothing renditions. Kuldeep has composed music for dance dramas like “Jagath Janani” and “Sri Krishna Vaibhavam” produced by Sri Devi Nrithyalaya. He has also composed songs and stotras for his YouTube spiritual music series, 'Vande Guru Paramparaam', including, Ganesha Pancharatnam, Shivashtakam, Namo Namo Bharathambe, Shiva Panchaakshara Stotram, Mahalakshmi Ashtakam, Ashtalakshmi Stotram, Bhavani Ashtakam, Rama Ashtakam and few other devotional songs.

He is currently pursuing training in Western Classical music and learning the nuances of the art. He aims to become a global music composer in the future and intends to promulgate the greatness of the Indian patrimony to the world.

Touring

As a performing musician, Kuldeep Pai has travelled all over India and across the globe, including Australia, New Zealand, United States of America, Norway, Singapore, South Africa, Canada, Mauritius, Re-union Islands and all over Europe.

Vande Guru Paramparaam

In his quest to reinvigorate Indian heritage through music and to cascade the cultural abundance to the younger generation, Kuldeep Pai conceptualized- 'Vande Guru Paramparaam', a spiritual musical series in 2015.

All the devotional videos under this series have drawn rave reviews for lyrical clarity and expressive intonations.

Popular devotional singer and child prodigy, Sooryagayathri was introduced by Kuldeep Pai. He is also her guru and mentor in her musical journey. Both of them shot to fame after the YouTube videos 'Ganesha Pancharatnam[10]' and 'Hanuman Chalisa' went viral in social media.[10]

Chith Foundation

Chith foundation for Arts and Spirituality is a non-profit organization instituted by Kuldeep Pai, with the main objective of enriching the classicism of Indian music and heritage. All his YouTube videos are recorded and released under the label 'Chith'. Kuldeep employs premier and latest technologies for his video and sound recordings and proposes to bring forth various musical genres of Indian background.
