Lannan Eacott (born 14 December 1994),[2] better known by his online alias LazarBeam, is an Australian YouTuber and video gamer. He is particularly associated with Fortnite Battle Royale and Minecraft, and he was YouTube's eighth most-viewed content creator of 2019. He is known for his "comedic riffs" and use of memes.

Career

Eacott originally worked in construction.[3][4] He originally began posting demolition and smashing in slow motion videos on YouTube.[4][5] He started his gaming YouTube channel in 2015,[4] taking the name of one of his former RuneScape characters.[6] Eacott built his YouTube channel around videos of him playing Fortnite Battle Royale;[7][8] he had previously uploaded videos of Madden NFL.[9]

Eacott, along with other prominent streamers, was critical of the tenth season of Fortnite Battle Royale, which launched in August 2019 and introduced a mechanical suit with missile launchers. The addition was described as "overpowered and unbalanced". Following this, Eacott's production of Minecraft-related videos began to increase, although he welcomed an update that restricted the abilities of the mechanical suit.[10] After release of the game's second chapter in October 2019, the focus of Eacott's videos further shifted away from Fortnite; he stated that he was disappointed with the update's lack of content.[7]

In October 2019, it was announced that Eacott would appear as himself in the 2020 film Free Guy, alongside streamers Ninja and Jacksepticeye.[11][12] In December, Eacott was acknowledged in YouTube's 2019 end-of-year summary, YouTube Rewind 2019: For the Record, as the eighth most-viewed content creator of the year, with 2 billion views in 2019.[13][14] Reporting on this, Business Insider described him as being known for his "comedic riffs" and use of memes.[15]

On 13 January 2020, it was reported that Eacott, along with YouTubers Elliott "Muselk" Watkins and Rachell "Valkyrae" Hofstetter, had signed a deal with YouTube to stream exclusively on that platform; he had previously streamed using Twitch.[8][16] Eacott and Watkins celebrated the announcement by undertaking a 12-hour live stream to raise money for the ongoing Australian bushfire relief effort.[16][17]

Eacott has been partnered with Rooster Teeth,[9] and is represented by Click Management.[18]

Personal life

Eacott's father is named Gordon.[2] Eacott dropped out of high school during Year 10 and did not attend college or university.[2][4] He has two brothers named Jarrad and Callan, and a sister named Tannar.[2][19][4] Between 2007 and 2008, Jarrad made 20 appearances in Minor League Baseball for the Elizabethton Twins and Gulf Coast League Twins.[19][20] In early 2019, Eacott had "code lazar"—his unique identifier for Fortnite in-game purchases—tattooed on his forearm in Comic Sans.[7]
