Pre-production and casting

Pre-production on the film began in July 2016. That same month, playback singer Shreya Ghoshal tweeted about singing a song composed by Bhansali for the film.[2] Many media outlets speculated that Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, who played the leads in Bhansali's Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013) and Bajirao Mastani (2015), were finalized to play Alauddin Khilji and Rani Padmini in the film. Multiple actors were rumored to be attached to the part of Rani Padmini's husband Rana Rawal Ratan Singh, including Vicky Kaushal, Fawad Khan, and Shahid Kapoor. [3][4][5]

In October 2016, it was announced that Bhansali would team up with Viacom 18 Motion Pictures to produce the film with Padukone, Singh and Kapoor playing the lead roles.[6]

Music

The music of the film will be composed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Shreya Ghoshal recorded a song for the film, which is currently being filmed on Deepika Padukone.[7][8] Currently, a Ghoomar song is being filmed on Deepika Padukone on a huge set that comprises of the splendid interiors of the Chittorgarh Fort.[9][10]
