The "[[Cotton#Genome|Genome]]" section at the bottom of the article is not only too technical, but it is about 10 years out of date. Numerous cotton species have been sequenced multiple times since the bulk of the section was written in 2010 or thereabouts. [https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fpls.2020.560096/full| This review] in ''Frontiers in Plant Sciences'' from 2020 covers this progress quite nicely. Unfortunately, I don't have the background in plant genetics to accurately rewrite this section and do it justice, so I'm putting out this call for help! Like the comment about the genome section, this article is almost completely socially focused. There isn't a discussion of its dichotomy, etc. I was curious if it was related to milkweed, which I doubt, but found no useful information on its biology. change "Cotton continues to be picked by hand in developing countries[78] and in Xinjiang, China, by forced labor." to "Cotton continues to be picked by hand in developing countries[78] and in Xinjiang, China, by forced labor, paradoxly the Chinese goverment claim that 69.83% cotton in Xinjiang is harvested mechanically by 2020" Source link:http://society.people.com.cn/gb/n1/2021/0326/c1008-32061768.html Heydyeshy (talk) 08:31, 6 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not done for now: I don't see the benefit of including a claim which is clearly propaganda.

"Genome" section needs revision and updating

The "Genome" section at the bottom of the article is not only too technical, but it is about 10 years out of date. Numerous cotton species have been sequenced multiple times since the bulk of the section was written in 2010 or thereabouts. This review in Frontiers in Plant Sciences from 2020 covers this progress quite nicely. Unfortunately, I don't have the background in plant genetics to accurately rewrite this section and do it justice, so I'm putting out this call for help! Biology

Like the comment about the genome section, this article is almost completely socially focused. There isn't a discussion of its dichotomy, etc. I was curious if it was related to milkweed, which I doubt, but found no useful information on its biology. 2600:1700:5BD0:4400:C45A:38B:526A:43B (talk) 19:03, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Edit Request

“ Cotton continues to be picked by hand in developing countries[79] and in Xinjiang, China, by forced labor.[80] Xinjiang produces over 20% of the world's cotton.[81]” should be moved to the “fair trade” section of the article where forced labor is already discussed. The harvesting section should instead be expanded with information on how cotton is picked by hand or why it is. I’m not sure why this information is in this section. World Cotton Day

@Roxy the dog: What would qualify as a "real thing"? Invasive Spices (talk) 18:01, 8 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Death and Taxes are real. World cotton Day was invented by a politician in India last year to promote cotton, obviously, but is currently no more than a PR exercise, not yet notable other than as PR. -Roxy the sceptical dog. wooF 18:18, 8 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • You seem to have not read the edit. It appears you read only the title of the first source, which I didn't add, I just gave it a refname. You read the WTO and SENASA Argentina cites? Invasive Spices (talk) 19:10, 8 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
