Information icon Hello, I'm Beccaynr. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Debattama Saha, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Please review WP:USERGENERATED, in Wikipedia:Reliable sources, thank you. Beccaynr (talk) 19:28, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Carlmumba (talk) 19:37, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to Pearl V Puri. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. -- DaxServer (talk) 18:18, 14 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

There is no single incident of adding unappropriate or promotional content. All the edits that were made were intended to add more information in the articles. Carlmumba (talk) 19:42, 14 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. The website Ancestry.com you have added as a reference, is unreliable. You can read the recent discussion about it here. Since you are a new user and kept adding it in many articles, I presumed you were advertising the website. -- DaxServer (talk) 08:10, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. But, the website is not ancestry, but ancestory. Carlmumba (talk) 14:04, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When reviewing sources, especially for a biography of a living person, I think it is helpful to review the Biographies of living persons (BLP) policy, which includes, "We must get the article right. Be very firm about the use of high-quality sources," and "Biographies of living persons ("BLPs") must be written conservatively and with regard for the subject's privacy. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a tabloid: it is not Wikipedia's job to be sensationalist, or to be the primary vehicle for the spread of titillating claims about people's lives; the possibility of harm to living subjects must always be considered when exercising editorial judgment." This is related to the Verifiability policy, and its discussion of sources, which includes, "The best sources have a professional structure in place for checking or analyzing facts, legal issues, evidence, and arguments. The greater the degree of scrutiny given to these issues, the more reliable the source. Be especially careful when sourcing content related to living people", and a list of common reliable sources. In the reliable sources guideline, the discussion of questionable sources includes, "Questionable sources are those with a poor reputation for checking the facts or with no editorial oversight. Such sources include websites [...] that rely heavily on rumors". To apply this to Ancestory.com, it is not one of the common reliable sources, (e.g. university-level textbook, a book published by a respected publishing house, magazine, mainstream newspaper), and it does not appear to have a fact-checking policy beyond this note at the end of entries: "Disclaimer: Contact us if you find some information irrelevant since the data is from various sites." It does not cite its sources, and it publishes unsourced contentious rumors. Therefore, Ancestory.com does not appear to be a source that should be used on Wikipedia, except for very limited purposes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you, Beccaynr (talk) 15:35, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm DaxServer. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Vijay Deverakonda have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. -- DaxServer (talk) 13:04, 6 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Carlmumba, I see you added a link to theancestory.com at Vijay Deverakonda [1] - in my previous comment [2], I talked about why this source should not be used, and I encourage you to follow the links in my comment and to review the information there, and to also consider asking for help at The Teahouse if you have more questions. Thank you, Beccaynr (talk) 16:33, 6 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not introduce links in actual articles to draft articles, as you did to 2022 Leicester unrest, Eddie Tabash and Islamic missionary activity. Since a draft is not yet ready for the main article space, it is not in shape for ordinary readers, and links from articles should not go to a draft. Such links are contrary to the Manual of Style. These links have been removed. Thank you. – 2804:F14:80B6:3101:7891:3F68:783:F174 (talk) 09:59, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Reliable sources

Please don't use the New York Post as a source for article content. On Wikipedia, it is not considered a reliable source. Thanks! Schazjmd (talk) 15:50, 3 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:CricTracker, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Speedy deletion nomination of Deepak Kanakaraju

Hello, Carlmumba

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Deepak Kanakaraju for deletion, because it seems to be inappropriate for a variety of reasons. For more details please see the notice on the article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

(Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Plum (company) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

Hello Carlmumba. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Carlmumba. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Carlmumba|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. — DaxServer (t · m · e · c) 09:53, 11 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have been editing Wikipedia from quite some time now. I want to become a valued contributor to the platform and have been improving my edits to do just that. May be my inexperience or level of editing gives an impression of "undisclosed financial stake" in promoting a topic, as you said in your comment, but that is not true by any stretch of imagination. I'm a writer by profession and I'm not connected to most of the articles that I edit, but I'm inclined towards some of these topics due to the nature of my work. I would welcome any suggestions from you to improve my Wikipedia editing skills, and I'm willing to learn and continuously enhance my contributions. I make small targets for myself and currently I'm looking at that 500 mark to become an extended confirmed user. Thank you! Carlmumba (talk) 10:19, 11 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

As previously advised, your edits, such as the edit you made to CricTracker, give the impression you have a financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. You were asked to cease editing until you responded by either stating that you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits, or by complying with the mandatory requirements under the Wikimedia Terms of Use that you disclose your employer, client and affiliation. Again, you can post such a disclosure on your user page at User:Carlmumba, and the template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Carlmumba|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. Please respond before making any other edits to Wikipedia. scope_creepTalk 11:07, 11 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have mentioned it in the above comment as well that I'm not being directly or indirectly compensated for the edits. I intend to contribute in a way to make Wikipedia better. I may not be at your level of editing at this point in time, but I'm willing to learn from comments and suggestions from seasoned editors like you. I can make mistakes and welcome every attempt to correct me. Thank you! Carlmumba (talk) 11:58, 11 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Anurag Sinha (actor)

Hi, The lead is a summary of the article, so it is sourced. Also, there's nothing wrong with some positive commentary based on facts - his achievement as winner of Best Actor Award for International Film Festivals is quite relevant and useful. With all the citations in place, the article makes sense. Centrepiece12 • Talk2me There was no need to add vague content. It is a fact and relevant to the summary of the article. Please support.
