Sang'gre (also known as Sang'gre: The Encantadia Chronicles) is an upcoming Philippine television drama fantasy series broadcast by GMA Network.[1] The series is based on a 2005 Philippine television series Encantadia and is a spin-off of 2016 version of Encantadia.[2] It serves as the fifth television series in the Encantadia franchise. Directed by Mark A. Reyes and starring Bianca Umali.

Background

Encantadia is an original TV series franchise created by GMA Network in 2005 top-billed by Sunshine Dizon, Iza Calzado, Karylle and Diana Zubiri as the four Sang'gres ("diwata" in Filipino, "fairy" in English). The show had 2 sequels, Etheria (2005-2006) and Encantadia: Pag-Ibig Hanggang Wakas (2006) with the same cast. After a decade, the series received a successful revival in 2016 with a new ensemble led by new Sang'gres, Glaiza de Castro, Kylie Padilla, Gabbi Garcia and Sanya Lopez.[3][4]

The spin-off was introduced during the Kapuso New Year Countdown on December 31, 2021, through an omnibus plug of GMA Networks's future 2022 programming. Titled Sang’gre, Reyes posted on January 25, 2022 a photo of a team meeting with the caption "And the portal to the world of Encantadia is open once again."[5]

Production

The series will be written by Suzette Doctolero, who wrote the previous Encantadia series and will be directed by the same director, Mark A. Reyes with creative director, RJ Nuevas. Aside from Doctolero, former ABS-CBN's experienced screenwriter Ricky Lee, and writers Anna Aleta Nadela, Jake Somera, former ABS-CBN writer Ays de Guzman and program manager Ali Nokom-Dedicatoria are also a part of the production team.[6][7] Since 2023, Umali has been sharing training videos of moves that can be adapted for the show. She also stated that she takes this project seriously, particularly when it comes to her role training. In the series, she had to perform certain action scenes. The actress compared her preparation for this series to that of a Marvel movie.[8]

Filming

In October 2023, the first taping day has started by using "Bolt X" camera that was used for GMA Network's Voltes V Legacy.

Teaser

The first image tease for the series was released on July 23, 2023 at the Comic-Con held at San Diego, California.[2][7] Director Reyes shared the news on social media site Instagram by posting a photo of Bianca Umali in costume.[7] At that time, Umali was not yet confirmed for any role in the said series until October 23, 2023 wherein she was announced via 24 Oras as "Terra", the daughter of Sang'gre Danaya.[9]
