January 2

This is a list of redirects that have been proposed for deletion or other action on January 2, 2024.

The Goryeo-Khitan War

Atta Islands

Unclear connection with target. Unlikely misspelling, could be potentially confused with ʻAta. Delete. (NPP action) 🌺 Cremastra (talk) 21:09, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

August Moon

I think August Moon (Mr. Wiggles) should get the page, with an {{about}} disambiguator and the 2 instances of August Moon directing to the festival should be piped correctly. microbiologyMarcus (petri dish·growths) 21:07, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I Lost My Little Boy

This is an {{R with history}} that came from a 2012 AfD that closed as merge to Ponyo. However, no content was actually merged, so this redirect now points to an article with no mentions of the subject. I propose to delete. TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 19:37, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: If anyone's confused as to why Ponyo was chosen as a merge target (I certainly was), it seems to be because some news outlets announced that this would be the "next Studio Ghibli movie" in 2005. After Howl's Moving Castle (2004), the next Ghibli film was Ponyo (2008). Sorry, I forgot about Tales from Earthsea (2006)! TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 19:45, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Delete: especially as reading an early version of this page is not encouraging https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=I_Lost_My_Little_Boy&oldid=484916877 JAYFAX (talk) 20:57, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thoracolumbar

Though the word "thoracolumbar" is mentioned once in the target article, or is not clear that it is mentioned in a way which defines the word or makes it clear that any part of the target article is what readers are looking for if searching this term. There are a few articles and redirects on Wikipedia that begin with "Thoracolumbar", but it is unclear if any of them adequately define the word "Thoracolumbar" in a way which would validate the redirect targeting any page over others. (Creating a disambiguation page at this title would most likely fail WP:PTM.) Also, Wiktionary:thoracolumbar exists, and "Thorocolumbar" is most likely a misspelling of "Thoracolumbar", so I've bundled it with this nomination. Steel1943 (talk) 19:33, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Lumbosacral

Not mentioned in the target article, leaving the connection between the redirects and the target article unclear. However, the word "Lumbosacral" is the first word of several articles and redirects on Wikipedia, but I cannot determine if any of them would be a good target for this redirect which would be the defining target for this redirect. (Creating a disambiguation page at this target would most likely fail WP:PTM.) Also, Wiktionary:lumbosacral exists. Steel1943 (talk) 19:24, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Cervicothoracic

Not mentioned in the target article, leaving the connection between the redirect and the target article unclear. Per Wikipedia search results, there may be a connection between this term and Stellate ganglion, considering that Cervicothoracic ganglion redirects there, but that seems like a partial title match situation. Other than that, Wikipedia's search results for "Cervicothoracic" seem to be all over the place with no clear definition. Note that Wiktionary:cervicothoracic exists. Glorification of Palestinian terrorism

It's not even nominally about the same subject. No pages link to it, it serves no purpose other than to be inflammatory.  Vanilla  Wizard 💙 19:10, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It could be working to stop dubious articles with that name continually reappearing? Irtapil (talk) 07:51, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If the potential benefit of this redirect is that its existence prevents new articles from being made with that particular title, I think salting is a better solution.  Vanilla  Wizard 💙 20:02, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure I understand the problem. The article deals with the glorification of martyrdom in Palestinian society right? This includes glorification of groups considered terrorists in the West. Is it not best to have it just as a redirect than an actual article title or article? Homerethegreat (talk) 21:57, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
"The article deals with the glorification of martyrdom in Palestinian society right?" No, it does not. It did, and then we discussed it at two venues with overwhelming results in favor of dropping the "glorification of" from the title and remaking the page from the ground up to be about martyrdom, not the judgmental "glorification" prepended to the title, as one editor put it. Results at the move discussion were unanimous, and at the AfD, most editors on either side of the keep/delete question all agreed the title had to go and the article needed some serious NPOV work (though you were one of the few voices that praised the old title). At the heart of the NPOV issues was the interchangeable use of "martyr" and "terrorist." Before other editors discussed and started improving the page, it was not an article about martyrdom, but a polemical essay written to dehumanize a nationality. Any remaining material that conflates the two concepts (martyr and terrorist) will have to be cleaned up. The old title is now a redirect, which is still questionable, but this particular redirect - which has never been linked to from any page - is especially inflammatory and serves no purpose. It is better to salt it than to keep it around.  Vanilla  Wizard 💙 01:37, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Glorification of martyrdom in Palestinian society

Background: We had an AfD for the article "Glorification of martyrdom in Palestinian society" that closed as keep, hinged on changing the title to drop "Glorification of" as editors felt it was inappropriate and inflammatory.

We then initiated a move discussion at the talk page, which had unanimous support in favor of dropping "Glorification of" from the title for the same reasons.

As numerous editors felt that the old title was not acceptable, and I find it improbable that a reader is going to search for a title that starts with "glorification of", I believe the old title should be deleted.

    • I appreciate Tamzin's striking of the above IP editor !vote per the extended confirmed restrictions. I would like to very briefly respond to the IP's argument in case any eligible !voters may find it agreeable. We are not required to keep an offensive title as a redirect if the redirect is not useful; it is not a plausible search term and there is minimal risk of link rot due to how the page has not existed for a significant length of time. Looking through the "what links here" results revealed that most of the links to it were inappropriate easter eggs anyways. I have gone through all the links to either update to the new title where appropriate or remove the in-text link where inappropriate, so deleting this redirect will not break anything.  Vanilla  Wizard 💙 19:05, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
But could those redirects work to prevent those offensive articles continually reappearing? Irtapil (talk) 07:54, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
"prevent those offensive articles continually reappearing" - If we want to prevent offensive article titles from continual recreation, that's what salt is for.  Vanilla  Wizard 💙 21:01, 28 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Keep. Salting is a way of preventing article creation, but when the offensive title is a plausible search term (and given that people keep creating articles at titles like this it clearly is) then it is significantly preferable to protect the title as a redirect (as people are taken to neutral content about the topic they are looking for) rather than salting (where we tell them we have no relevant content and they have to get lucky with search results, which may be several clicks/taps away). Salting is appropriate for repeatedly recreated titles that are nonsense and/or unrelated to encyclopaedic topics, which is not the case here. While the IP editor's views cannot be considered in this topic area, they are relevant, appropriate and appear to have been made in good faith. Thryduulf (talk) 01:42, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

No Flow

It is not helpful to redirect to a target that has no mention of the subject in question. These redirects do imply that these songs charted, so they may be notable per WP:NSONG. Deletion to encourage article creation may be desirable. -- Tavix (talk) 21:24, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
