A possible issue is that you may not be aware of the type of pseudoscience McDougall advocates. Here is a recent video from John A. McDougall calling angioplasty a scam . Here is another recent video of John A. McDougall on Chef AJ's channel claiming colonoscopy is a scam and that people should avoid them . If you check the comments in these videos, all the top rated comments are from die-hard McDougall fans claiming all doctors are scam artists and that people should run away from hospitals and ignore advice from their doctors and follow McDougall's diet. Any critical comments are removed. You seem to be oblivious to how harmful this type of misinformation can be. Let me ask you, are you one of these people that also believes the medical community is a scam? Hopefully you do not really believe in these conspiracy theories. Contrary to what McDougall might say, doctors are not the enemy out to get you! Psychologist Guy (talk) 16:37, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

:No, and I'm not saying you're wrong, but you're idealising. His general direction is objectively good: eat plants, less fat. People feel better, get healthier and lose weight.
:Now we can debate McDougall's more controversial advice, but he deserves a fair assessment nevertheless. The issue is even if he's as bad as you think he is, he deserves a strong and impartial (!) sourcing, and not from some biased and outdated "physiologist" who has contempt for all vegan diets. This is evidence that Butler doesn't know, has the wrong arguments and holds no evidence, but is of course on point regarding homeopathy, faith-healing, etc.
:I think the gatekeeping crusade you're conducting is unjust and frankly inhumane, even accounting for McDougall getting it wrong at times.

An extended welcome

Welcome to Wikipedia. I've added a welcome message to the top of this page that gives a great deal of information about Wikipedia. I hope you find it useful.

Additionally, I hope you don't mind if I share some of my thoughts on starting out as a new editor on Wikipedia: If I could get editors in your situation to follow just one piece of advice, it would be this: Learn Wikipedia by working only on non-contentious topics until you have a feel for the normal editing process and the policies that usually come up when editing casually. You'll find editing to be fun, easy, and rewarding. The rare disputes are resolved quickly and easily.

Working on biographical information about living persons is far more difficult. Wikipedia's Biographies of living persons policy requires strict adherence to multiple content policies, and applies to all information about living persons including talk pages.

If you have a relationship with the topics you want to edit, then you will need to review Wikipedia's Conflict of interest policy, which may require you to disclose your relationship and restrict your editing depending upon how you are affiliated with the subject matter.

Some topic areas within Wikipedia have special editing restrictions that apply to all editors. It's best to avoid these topics until you are extremely familiar with all relevant policies and guidelines.

I hope you find some useful information in all this, and welcome again. --Ronz (talk) 14:53, 29 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

John A. McDougall advocacy edits

Do you care to explain why you are so pro- John A. McDougall? It seems you will not accept any valid criticisms. You talk about balance, but you will not accept a single critical source.

A possible issue is that you may not be aware of the type of pseudoscience McDougall advocates. Here is a recent video from John A. McDougall calling angioplasty a scam [1]. Here is another recent video of John A. McDougall on Chef AJ's channel claiming colonoscopy is a scam and that people should avoid them [2].
