Tennis Masters Series, previously called Super-9, are a series of nine ATP tennis tournaments held throughout the year in various locations around the world, chiefly Europe and North America. The events are mandatory for players in the ATP circuit, and award more ranking points than regular tournaments, but less than grand slam events.

Description of Tournaments

The location of the nine tournaments is somewhat fixed, although recently there have been some changes. The nine tournaments—in calendar order—are:

Location (surface)

  1. Indian Wells, California, USA (outdoor hard) Official Website
  2. Miami, Florida, USA (outdoor hard) Official Website (nicknamed The Fifth Grand Slam)
  3. Monte Carlo, Monaco (outdoor clay) Official Website
  4. Rome, Italy (outdoor clay) Official Website
  5. Hamburg, Germany (outdoor clay)
  6. Montreal/Toronto, Canada (outdoor hard)
  7. Cincinnati, Ohio, USA (outdoor hard)
  8. Madrid, Spain (indoor hard) (previously Stuttgart, Germany)
  9. Paris, France (indoor carpet)

A year-end tournament played only by the eight top players in the year-end singles rankings might be considered the 10th Masters Series event and also awards points. The location of this season-ending tournament varies, although not always yearly. In 200304 the location was Houston, Texas, USA. In 2005 the tournament will be played in Shanghai, China.
