New Found Glory (formerly A New Found Glory) is an American hardcore-influenced pop punk band, that formed in 1997 in Coral Springs, Florida and is currently based in California.

History

Early years

New Found Glory formed in the middle of 1997 with Jordan Pundik on vocals, Chad Gilbert (formerly of hardcore band Shai Hulud) and Steve Klein on guitars, Ian Grushka on bass and Joe Moreno on drums (he was replaced by Cyrus Bolooki after their debut release). The band's name, "A New Found Glory," was thought up by Pundik and Klein while working at Red Lobster, but they later dropped the 'A' because many fans had difficulty finding their records in stores. The band embarked on a series of early tours, which included tours with local band The Vacant Andys, whose lead singer, Chris Carrabba, would go on to form the bands Further Seems Forever and, most notably, Dashboard Confessional.

The band recorded their first EP called It's All About the Girls under Fiddler Records in June 1997. The band's enthusiastic live performances soon resulted in them selling out the entire pressing of this EP. Over time, the strength of the live show helped build a strong following. Their first album Nothing Gold Can Stay was released by Eulogy Recordings. A popular band at the time, Midtown heard the record and gave a copy of it to Stefanie Reines of Drive-Thru Records. She liked what she heard and had the band re-release the album in 1999 under Drive-Thru Records. Later they recorded an EP entitled From the Screen to Your Stereo, consisting of movie themes covered in a similar manner to Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. As a result of their growing popularity and a distribution deal Drive-Thru had with MCA, which allowed MCA to take away any of Drive-Thru's bands, the band was signed to MCA.

Their first full length release recorded with MCA was their self-titled album, which was released late in 2000 and which was the first to make an impression on the charts reaching number 107 on the Billboard 200 album charts and number one on the Heatseeker chart (the album's hit single "Hit or Miss" reached number 15 on the US modern rock chart). From the Screen to the Stereo would make the top 40 of the Heatseeker charts in 2002.

The band's profile would grow in 2001 with a support slot to a blink-182 tour and a slot on the Warped Tour. The band recorded the Sticks and Stones album in late 2001 for release in the middle of 2002. Sticks and Stones would prove to be their breakthrough record debuting at number 4 on the Billboard album charts selling 91,000 albums in the first week of sales and also reaching the top ten of the UK album charts. The album would spawn two singles namely

• "My Friends Over You" reached number 85 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2002, number 11 in Canada, number 5 on the US modern rock chart and number 2 on a MP3.com download chart.
• "Head on Collision" went top 30 on both the Canadian singles charts and the US modern rock chart.

New Found Glory headlined the 2002 and 2004 Warped Tours, and will do so again in 2007.

New Found Glory released Catalyst in May 2004 and it debuted at number 3 on the Billboard album chart in late May selling 146,000 albums in its first week of release. The album would also debut in the top 40 of the UK and Australian album charts. The first single "All Downhill from Here" would go top 20 on both US and a composite world modern rock chart (based on the US, UK, Canada, Sweden, Finland and Australian charts) at the end of May 2004. Musically, the album was more complex and had harder guitar riffs than the previous albums, but the songs still had that classic "New Found Glory chorus."

Contrary to the band's announcement on Fuse's Daily Download on March 28 2005, James Dewees of The Get Up Kids and Reggie and the Full Effect (who had previously provided keyboards for the song "Failure's Not Flattering" on Catalyst and toured with the band as a sixth member for about ten months) did not permanently join New Found Glory, due to his busy schedule with his own band.

Chad Gilbert would also form a hardcore band called Hazen Street with Freddie Cricien and Hoya of Madball, Toby Morse of H₂O, David Kennedy formerly of Boxcar Racer, and Mackie Jayson formerly of Bad Brains. [1] However, due to an exclusivity clause in New Found Glory's contract with Universal Music, Gilbert was not allowed to be a part of Hazen Street, despite co-writing the majority of their debut album's material. Although he wasn't credited due to the contract, his contribution to the recording remained on the album.

On June 14, 2006 MTV.com posted an article interviewing Chad Gilbert who announced that the next album would be titled Coming Home and was scheduled to be released September 19, 2006. He also announced the first single titled "It's Not Your Fault" would be released sometime in July 2006. [2]

Along with a new album, the band will also be touring. They announced a tour of the UK that would start in November of 2006. [3] and that Michael Bethancourt of the Tyler, TX band Ivoryline would be joining the band as an additional guitarist/keyboard player for upcoming tours.

In June, the new single "It's Not Your Fault" leaked onto the internet, after being released on a Suretone Records sampler. In July the second song from Coming Home, titled 'Hold My Hand' was leaked onto the internet via fansites.

On August 23, 2006, the band released a cover of Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me a River "on Yahoo! Music's "Pepsi Smash Cover Art". Also, another song from Coming Home, titled "Oxygen", was released on the band's Myspace page in late August.

On September 19, 2006, the album Coming Home was released, just as scheduled. It was produced by Thom Panunzio, who recorded Ozzy Osbourne, Tom Petty, and The Go-Go’s and sold 38,845 copies in its first week.[4] Musically, the album was much more mature than anything the band had ever done before, with longer and slower melodic songs. People had previously complained about Pundik's vocals, saying they were "too nasally"; while on this album, those complaints faded drastically.

New Found Glory finished a fall 2006 headlining tour supported by The Early November, Cartel, Limbeck and Hit the Lights, as well as a November/December UK tour supported by The Early November and Hit the Lights. The band also finished touring as a support act, along with The Early November and Permanent Me, for the pop/rock band Fall Out Boy. On May 6, 2007, New Found Glory will be headlining the charity concert RiverFusion in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

On March 20, 2007, the band parted ways with Geffen Records. They plan to release their upcoming full-length From the Screen to Your Stereo 2 on their former label, Drive-Thru Records, in the fall of 2007. Another full-length album is expected to be released in 2008 on a yet to be announced label. [5] In April 2007, the band played the Give It A Name festival and a few headlining shows in the UK, France and Germany.

Jordan Pundik

Jordan Isaak Pundik (born October 12, 1979) is the current lead vocalist. He was married on September 5, 2005, which was the second date after the cancellation of the first one, which was due to take place on Labor Day weekend. His vocals also appear on the tracks Kings of Hollywood and You're Not Alone on MxPx's 2003 release Before Everything & After. Jordan also lent his vocals to Tom Delonge's first non-blink-182 band, Box Car Racer on the song "Cat Like Thief", along with lead singer of Rancid, Tim Armstrong.

Chad Gilbert

Chad Gilbert (born 9 March 1981 is the band's lead guitarist. He was a singer for the popular and influential underground metal-core band Shai Hulud before joining New Found Glory. He is also a former member and songwriter of the hardcore punk band Hazen Street. He also performed guest vocals for the band Throwdown on the album Haymaker for the song The Only Thing.

Gilbert grew up in Coral Springs, Florida, but now currently resides in Tyler, Texas with his wife, Eisley vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Sherri DuPree. Gilbert proposed to her at the Hollywood premiere of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (DuPree's favorite book), at the El Capitan Theatre. Gilbert and DuPree tied the knot on Feb. 17th, 2007 at Villa di Felicita in Tyler, Texas. Gilbert lives a straight edge lifestyle and is currently managing the band Brighten.

Steve Klein

Steve Klein (born September 30 1979) is the secondary guitarist (rhythm guitar) and primary lyricist. He is one of the founding members of the band; he and Pundik are responsible for the name of the band, having thought it up while working at Red Lobster. Klein was also once kicked out of the band during its early days for not knowing how to tune his guitar. Klein gave up an English scholarship to pursue a musical career.

Ian Grushka

Ian Grushka (born 4 September, 1977) is the band's bassist. He grew up in Coral Springs, Florida and was married on 29 December 2001. He has a son, Oliver, born on 14 September, 2005. Prior to starting New Found Glory, Grushka and Pundik were in the bands Flip 60 and Inner City Kids together.

He co-owns the record label Broken Sounds with bandmate Chad Gilbert.

Ian is considerably overweight, and often performs shirtless onstage and in videos, his gut and love handles hanging over his pants. Arguably, this has become his trademark, making him one of the most visible members of the band.

Cyrus Bolooki

Cyrus Bolooki (born 27 February 1980) is the band's drummer. Preceeded by the departure of Joe Moreno in 1997, Cyrus is still considered the "new guy" by his band mates, who originally asked Bolooki to play after hearing him at a talent show while playing in a different band.

Bolooki currently plays on Orange County Drum and Percussion drums, Remo Heads, Drum Workshop Hardware and Zildjian Cymbals. He also endorses his own model of Vater drum sticks called "Cyrus Bolooki: The Commander".

He performs on a snare drum decorated with characters from the Simpsons that was given to him by his drum tech.
