Userboxes

I'm really impressed with the quantity and quality of the userboxes you've been creating. And what a diverse range of subjects! Keep up the good work! -- JediLofty User | Talk 10:41, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm having fun. Once I learned how to do them I just added my own tastes to them. As you can tell I have a range of interests, from the serious to the completely inane! --One Salient Oversight 11:04, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Userbox

Thanks for your new userbox! I like it, and supports it. --Beyond silence 15:20, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've created a special page for us. Click here.

OSO, thanks for your concern but in fact I am not a vegetarian. On the contrary, I eat large quantities of just about anything! Colin MacLaurin 12:53, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'd love to OSO, thanks for the invite.... unfortunately I live in Brizzy and can't make it down for that time frame. ~cries in corner~ --Jquarry 09:06, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Peter Jensen pic

Hi! I frankly don't know why I gave it a CC license. Maybe I read the options and thought that was the one that seemed to fit. I presumed It was OK to use it as it was freely available through Anglican Media.

What license should it have? Should it be deleted and uploaded differently? Can you fix it? I'm not good at this sort of stuff!

--Amandajm 12:23, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think the CC license was what I stuck on it because I read the list and when I had downloaded it from Anglican Media, it said that it was a promotional pic that could be used with acknowledgement. So the source needs to be acknowledged. Do you think I should give Anglican Media a ring to find out? They are monitoring the website that it has been used on, so will know it is there. --Amandajm 06:51, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't worry about it. I've already emailed them and I got an email back yesterday saying they will contact me shortly about it. I'll see if I can get either a change in licence (to a CC one) or at least a statement allowing the pics to be used more freely on Wikipedia. The reason this is important is because I created the userbox User:UBX/Sydney Anglicans which featured the cropped pic of Peter Jensen. Images that are copyrighted and determined to be "fair use" can't be used on userboxes or people's pages. Even though the images are essentially promotional in nature they still can't be used for any other purpose. It's tough, I know, but I was able to get special permission from Xiph.Org Foundation to use their logo on the userbox User:UBX/Ogg Vorbis so all may not be lost.

--One Salient Oversight 10:28, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm sorry that I left a message on your User page. I do stupid things like that on a remarkably regular basis. I keep reminding myself of Mr Bean... particularly having just seen the latest.... oh, this is waffle... ...if you've emailed Anglican Media then it will probably be sorted out quite easily. If not, I'm in Sydney ... --Amandajm 10:56, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

President userbox

Thanks for finding the new image of Richard Nixon. It's much better than the one it replaces. If you can find a tight head shot of George H.W. Bush or Jimmy Carter, feel free to make similar improvements to the userbox. Karl Hahn (T) (C) 13:32, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Userbox obsession is good

Hi - good to meet you (briefly) at the Sydney meetup.

If you ever want to use your (if I understood you correctly) obsessive userbox habit for a good cause, consider paying a visit to Appropedia:Help:Userboxes - they will serve an important role in the networking on the site, but I've been focused elsewhere, and we haven't had anyone take up the task.

No pressure, but if you were ever in the mood to help (or even had suggestions) it would be fantastic. Thanks --Chriswaterguy talk 14:51, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll have a go. Got to get to bed now. --One Salient Oversight 14:54, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just check you're user page! It's not a bad suprise either... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by MichaelHenley (talkcontribs) 06:46, 8 May 2007 (UTC).[reply]

You may be able to help me with the coding...

Hey again! Do you know how to introduce a variable into a userbox? (e.g. This user's hometown is (Town Name Here)). How do you code it so that a variable coded into the Userbox link e.g.{{User:Example/ubx/ubxexample|Variable text}} comes up there?  MichaelHenley (Page-Talk-Contribs) 08:33, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

State/nation userbox

No problem. I actually found your userbox when you edited one of mine, the User:Mtmelendez/Userboxes/No Globalization, which you greatly improved. I'll see if I can find more suitable pictures for the State vs. Nation UB, although they seem fine for the time being. - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 12:25, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Asterix wiki

Hi. I think your Asterix wiki is quite nice. I'm not going to vote, simply because I don't know how much time I could have in there. I noticed you can't wait. Well, I'm just going to suggest that you visit the irc channel http://www.wikia.com/wiki/Wikia_IRC_channel and get a live answere. I myself can't wait for my imdb wiki wich seems to be going well in it's request page. Good luck --Steinninn 00:36, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Asterix wiki-BigBrotherIsWatchingYou

Sure, I will be able to help:

  • I can write articles
  • I can translate articles from french to english.

By the way, your wiki is really nice! Cheers, BigBrotherIsWatchingYou

Merci beaucoup, Je vous contacterai plus tard --One Salient Oversight 23:55, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dreadfully sorry about that, I will leave them alone in future then. --Martian.knight 04:19, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Archbishop Peter Jensen cropped.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Archbishop Peter Jensen cropped.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 22:06, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On the Unfulfilled Christian Prophecy article

Do you want to maybe work on it together now that it's been redirected, since many people seem to support that the material might be useful, perhaps as a new article? I can't help very much right now, because school is almost over and i'm still doing exams, but once exams are out after next tuesday, I was thinking that maybe we could work on the article under a user subpage with a much better title, and make it so the original purpose of it actually shines out clearly in a manner which would defend itself from drastic changes in purpose. After next tuesday, I think i'll have large amounts of free time on my hands, and i'd be very interested in helping put this article together in a proper manner. EU Userboxes

I've made a userbox to replace your collection of userboxes that tell specific countries to join the EU. It uses parameters and parser functions.

{{User:The Userboxer/Userboxes/JoinEU}} creates

This user wants all of Europe to join
the European Union.

That one is an example of how it would look if no parameter was defined. However, one parameter, the country, would make it like this:

{{Sweden}} creates

This user wants Sweden
to join the the European Union.

This template effectively deprecates all of your join-EU templates. Sorry. If you have any questions, drop me a line. The UserboxerComplain/ubx 15:20, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Flag of The Jewish Autonomous Oblast.svg

Thanks for uploading Image:Flag of The Jewish Autonomous Oblast.svg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 08:06, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Mouse_Trap.ogg

Thanks for uploading Image:Mouse_Trap.ogg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 17:45, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
