Gymnastikos S. Larissas

Yes Gymnastikos was merged with AEL 1964 but it is the SAME EXACT basketball club. It was Gymnastikos BC the basketball club, which was the basketball club of Gymnastikos athletic association that merged with AEL 1964 FC the football club of the AEL 1964 athletic association to form a new AEL 1964 athletic association that would have a good football club with AEL 1964 FC and a good basketball club with Gymnastikos S. Larissas BC, which was renamed to AEL 1964 BC. Gymanstikos S. Larissas is the same exact team as AEL 1964 BC, just re-named and merged with another athletic union. But it IS the same team there should not be a separate wiki page created for it because it is not a defunct club or a new club, just the same exact one with a different name. Is there a reason you are supporting this Original Research fest? Just because people took the time to write something doesn't make it meaningful to wikipedia if it is not a notable academic term, event or person. It is better off as a stub. Guy Montag 18:42, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I added plenty of discussion on the talk page and it can be found here. I will be happy to discuss anything you believe is worthy of inclusion in the article as long as you have a legitimate reason for its inclusion and that reason conforms to easily confirmed academic findings in the area.

Thanks,

Euroleague

Hi, thanks for notifying me. I'm afraid my reaction is not what you have probably hoped for. You were edit-warring, quite blatantly (something like 10 reverts in 2 days?), so I can't help but saying that you were as much at fault as the anon here. I've protected the article and hope you'll both make some effort to work it out on talk, but please note that this might also lead to you both being blocked if the reverting continues. Fut.Perf. 05:21, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, when we do page protections we are actually supposed to do them without regard to which version it is that gets protected; it was pure coincidence. As for the other editor being a "guest", as you said, it is actually not the case that his being not logged in gives his opinion less weight than yours. Anon IPs are allowed to edit just like everybody else, and that includes that they have to be taken seriously just like everybody else in editorial disputes. For the same reason, I couldn't have used semi-protection to unilaterally shut him but not you out from the article. Fut.Perf. 09:12, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In friendship

I took the liberty of counting and assessing the labels on your user page. I found out that that you have 21 of those and I agree with 14,5 of them. (Most of the rest relates to the sign of the Zodiac, nationality, languages spoken and religious affiliation). So I think we're more or less on the same track. Nothing I've written has been in a mean spoirit. All the best Io 18:48, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PS: Corrected spelling. Being the archetypical pedant, I hate it, when I make mistakes like that. All the best Io 18:56, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. I'm glad too. You're passionate about your language and I'm passionate about mine. The objection I had was the generalization, to which I provided an answer and a counter-example. If I knew more languages I would actually have preferred to take examples from them rather than from Icelandic, just to remove suspicion of bias. As said, glad to make your acquaintance. From your labels, what separates us is the star sign (I'm a Gemini), religion (I'm an agnostic), place of birth, obviously and languages spoken. The 0,5 rating I gave was in regard to the politics label. I believe we're half in agreement there. All the best Io 19:28, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I looked at our exchanges today, and what separates us are the following entries:
This user comes from Greece: I do not.
This user supports the European Union: I do, but I don't want membership for my country.
This user is an Aries: Gemini.
This user is a member of the Eastern Othodox Church (the same goes for This user is an Eastern Orthodox Christian): Agnostic.
This user is a Social Liberal. I might be, depending on the definition.
As for languages, I speak neither Greek nor French.
All in all, I think we might agree on most things.
I hope you don't take my intrusion too seriously, but I think we have a lot in common. Cheers Io 13:44, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

user Gon4z

Hi, I just want to let you know, that there has been trouble with user:Gon4z all over wikipedia for nationalistic editing- he usually pushes all numbers regarding Albania up and tries all the time to reduce the strength and power of Serbia and Greece. He showed a really nasty behaviour (insults, 3rr, edit war, unsourced material, user page vandalism, lies, and so on) at the Albanian Military articles ( i.e. Albanian Land Forces Command). Here you can see his talkpage before he blanked it: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Gon4z&oldid=128556210#Incorrect_Info.2F3RR_warning He got banned three times in a week for his actions and insults, but hasn’t learned his lesson, as his rude behaviour at the article “Serbian Air Force” and his increasing of all Muslim and Albanian numbers in all kind of articles of the Balkans show. If he insists to edit war with you or begins to insult you let me know and I will dig up the endless complaints about him in the administrator’s board to help you in case you wish to report him on the "Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents". Best Regards noclador 02:06, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You are allowed to revert an article only twice a day. Unless you revert vandalism! Then there is no limit. I.e. if you revert (as I did) 5 times a day the $50 billion GDP Gon4z put into Albanian articles, when the correct number (IMF and World Bank) says it is $10 billion, then I'm reverting vandalism and I'm therefore fine. BUT nonetheless, make sure you do state clearly in the articles discussion why you reverted it! Also inform the Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/3RR quickly about it! Naturally the best is if you and another editor both revert the article to its correct state: first you, then him, then you, then him,... in this case you have both far less edits then the user whose wrong edits you try to keep out. I hope that I could help :-)
A fresh highlight from Gon4z ramblings in the Islam in Albania article: “The (Kosovo) war had a big influence in the growth of Islam as the world saw that as a Orthodox crusade on the Muslims of Kosova where the Serbian Orthodox people tried to expel all Albanians from Kosova, over 550,000 were forced out of Kosova and 20,000 were murdered, also the backing of the KLA by most Muslim countries and the 3,000 Mujahideen’s who volunteered to fight in Kosova helped widen Islam to the Albanian people.” And if you do not agree with this statement you are a: “God dam retarded Greek or Serbian Albanian hater, that is spreading Anti-Albanian Propaganda.” noclador 08:41, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I reported Gon4z today to administrator Prodego as he had to deal with Gon4z more than once too. Gon4z is currently editing unsourced material into articles and accuses anyone that does not agree of “vandalism” or “racism”. I think a longer ban is required. You can find my report about Gon4z (and a list of “deeds”) to administrator Prodego here. If you have any negative experiences with Gon4z or an opinion to add I would welcome your contributions. Thanks and best regards noclador 01:39, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It would be helpful if you could go to Prodegos site and confirm my complaints. This will give them more weight and will prolong the duration of a possible ban. Thanks, noclador 09:50, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I reported Gon4z to the Administrators' noticeboard as I found another large amount of insults he threw at users (i.e. "I can see you an American ASS licker"). Here is the link to the new discussion in which I request that he be banned once and for all, as he clearly is disruptive in everything he does. Please voice your personal complains at the new discussion too, thanks very much noclador 01:06, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Twelve Olympians

1.)

Hey! Could you please tell me what exactly this "cowardly" in "Aris Ares is the cowardly god of war" means? Thanks! - Sthenel 07:34, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Ares and Athena were the two primary gods of war and battle in Greek mythology. Ares was a bully, a man who was cruel and fought dirty. Athena, on the other hand, stressed honor in battle and the use of tactics. Athena represents the brave warrior, such as in the Medusa story. Ares, on the other hand, represents the soldiers who surround the surrenderers and cut them to pieces once they are helpless. In the Iliad, Ares sneaks down to the battlefield where he attacks with a long lance while invisible and behind the front shield wall of his chosen side. In other myths, Ares bawls and runs when hurt only slightly. Etc. Cratbro 20:41, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

2.)

Hi! I've studied the Greek mythology a lot and Aris Ares is simply called as "the God of War", not cowardly or anything. If you find him "coward" is another story. - Sthenel 20:00, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Again, it is "Ares", not "Aris". Ares IS often simply called "the God of War", but at the same time, he is portrayed as a coward. If you want something explicit, see Hesiod's Theogony. Cratbro 20:41, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

3.)

OK Ares...sorry but I wrote it in Greeklish. The point is that Ares is not called "the cowardly god of war". - Sthenel 20:58, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Again, see Hesiod. Cratbro 22:01, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent Work on Euroleague 2005-06

I suggest also making a separate article on that year final four. Just finished the 60-61 season, I also made a box for seasons prior to uleb euroleague. I'l make another one after FIBA reaign later. --ArnoldPettybone 16:27, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree

You cant underestimate the differences between the two. I'm making them exacly like the european cup\champions cup boxes, with links to one another. the basketball needs two diffrent boxes evan more then the football, they only changed the format. in basketball everything changed, from managing firm, seating arena specs. the works. Also I think I should move all the articles I'v made to a new location discarding the word "season". "FIBA European Champions cup 1957-58" sounds better and it has continuity with the later euroelague articles. --ArnoldPettybone 16:53, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'v checked all sort of sport compitions articles

In all of them the article conserning that season competition was in "details", not in the year. FIBA World Championship, Champions league. Its better that way becasue you have to remember that the season is not in one year, and someone not aware of how basketball/soccer operate will get the wrong idea.

Greek diaspora in Egypt

Hi- re. your question [3]; I removed it because Category:Greek Egyptians is already a subcategory of Category:Ethnic groups in Egypt and I also didn't think it made sense to flood the main article on Greeks with categories about the diaspora communities. Ideally, that category should be in an article about Greeks in Egypt specifically, like for example Armenians in Egypt and Italians in Egypt. Alas, there is no article to date about Greeks in Egypt despite a history that goes back even before the Ptolemies, though it would be nice to have one. Most other articles on ethnic groups don't have such a long list of categories of its diasporic communities, esp. those communities that are fairly small. The Egyptian Greek community has been in decline since the 1950s. — Zerida 07:46, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was hoping you could add your name to the WP:COUNCIL/P page to help get WP:Athens into existance. It's just a proposal so far, but I hope more people will add their names. El Greco (talk · contribs) 22:44, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Robert Browning

Please be more careful in assessing implications in a language not your own. A literate native speaker of English is quite likely, at any mention of Robert Browning, to at least hesitate over the question of whether it is Robert Browning, who could have studied Byzantium as well as Aristophanes; similarly Captain William Shakespear is never introduced without his title, and usually his regiment. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 18:32, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Neutrality

Please read WP:NPOV; we avoid all points of view, not just personal opinions. In fact, collective points of view, like the hostile opinion of Fallmerayer (which I share) are even more assiduously avoided than personal opinion, as less likely to be simply corrected. Please also read the talk page and his article before you cite Carleton S. Coon as a modern authority again. 18:39, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

I've urged including Fallmerayer myself; but Wikipedia doesn't do passages like that. We don't abuse even discredited nineteenth-century racists; WP:NPOV has a section on why we don't abuse Adolf Hitler .(Still less, of course, do we do it by appealing to twentieth-century racists like Coon; if for no other reason, it's unconvincing.)
Accuracy also enters the question. It would be nice if Fallmerayer had in fact been ignored and refuted since 1840, except for the Nazis; but if so, we wouldn't mention him any more than we mention Hans Hörbiger in Moon. His importance lies in the people he did persuade, from Martin P. Nilsson to Edith Hamilton. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 19:53, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I repeat: it's the wording you reverted to that is unacceptable. Go to Talk:Greeks#Carleton_Coon and we can begin working out a mutually acceptable one. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 20:18, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I was, once upon a time, content to tag it. But I do not think it should be restored; it violates policy. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 21:41, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalisms

Well, I don't think we can do something about them, at least for now. Their changes are too minor and as a result we cannot have them blocked - and if they use dynamic IPs this will be much more difficult. BC or BCE

Hi! In Greeks in Egypt you insist on BCE in the dates. Why, since all the date-articles are written with "BC"? - Sthenel 23:20, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The compromize has been to favor the status quo. This is because, every time there has been a discussion, opinion and for that mater arguments have been equal for both forms.Dejvid 09:40, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, to an extent the principle of favoring the status quo doesn't sit well with the principle that no one owns a page. However, once you have a situation where two styles have equal status, favoring the status quo is the only way to avoid edit wars. The same thing applies to the choice between "British" and "US" spelling. As to the argument that it should be BC to avoid redirects, just think thru the implications of applying this. This would either mean the total elimination of BCE or an edit war to change the years back and forth between BC and BCE. What we have is a pragmatic solution to a situation where editors who favor BCE are around equal with those who favor BC. Dejvid 22:31, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've re-read what you wrote. If I read you right, you are saying that the disagreement over eras should be fought out on the pages for years. The years are currently stable because those who favor BCE leave them alone. Isn't that desirable?Dejvid 22:58, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The policy on eras is not entirely clear and people can honestly disagree with what it means in practice. However, it surely can not mean that all refs to years in articles must point directly to the year. The agreement is that the two forms are equal but to insist on no redirects would wipe out BCE completely. That by no stretch of the imagination is treating the two forms equally. Why do you think the redirect links were implemented?Dejvid 09:01, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
AFAIK it was specifically to allow BCE forms but as it will take a little time for me to confirm that I'll drop that argument. My other points however are more important and are clearly valid.Dejvid 09:07, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Page move

Two points about your move of Greek American. First, article titles should always be singular, per WP:NC. The sole exceptions are terms which can never be used as a singular, such as scissors or trousers. Second, when a new title is appropriate the right way to change a title is to move the page rather than cut and pasting the content into a new article. Moving the page retains the full editing history that is required by the GFDL. If you have any questions let me know. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 19:17, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see German American and Italian American. If there are some with plural names they should be moved back to the singular. A confusing difference is that categories are always named plurally. So the correct category name is "Category: Greek Americans". Regarding the move over redirect, in those cases the proper thing to do is ask an admin to do it or list it at Wikipedia:Requested moves. If you'd taken that route someone probably would have explained why it doesn't match the naming conventions. Anyway, it was easily fixed so there's no problem. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 22:33, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Olympiacos

I don't understand. Olympiacos, Olympiacos FC and Olympiacos CFP seem to be the same topic. If so shouldn't the articles be merged? Aren't they all about the Olympiakos Syndesmos Filathlon Peiraios? It looks like there should be just one article with some redirects. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 11:56, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I understand. I've made the move you requested. Could you handle cleaning up the double redirects please? See this page for specific instructions: [4] ·:· Will Beback ·:· 12:09, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Derby of the eternal enemies, decorative fair use images

Fair use images such as the Olympiacos and Panathinaikos badges should not be used for decorative purposes, only for illustration on articles for .which a valid fair use rationale is provided for their use. See Wikipedia:Non-free content, hope that helps. WATP (talk)(contribs) 15:10, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

FIBA Euroleague 1992-93

Great work done on the FIBA Euroleague 1992-93, fantastic. I think the artical should be moved to another location, because it was called the "European Championship" back then, until the 1996-97 season when it was rebranded again as the FIBA Euroleague until ULEB stepped in. Dont you agree?--ArnoldPettybone (talk) 16:13, 27 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Another editor has added the {{prod}} template to the article Arsenal and Chelsea rivalry statistics, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. AfD nomination of Arsenal and Chelsea rivalry statistics

An editor has nominated Arsenal and Chelsea rivalry statistics, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Arsenal and Chelsea rivalry statistics and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 01:00, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Iraklis FC

Hey mate.I put a box with Iraklis performances throughout Greek championship history.I want to highlight the best and worst seasons. But i don't know how.Can you colour the 1983-84 box in blue (our best season) and the 67-68 76-77 96-97 06-07 seasons in red (our worst)? Note:Colour the boxes which show positioning and not the boxes shown the year.--Eagle of Pontus (talk) 14:40, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe it should be, and I'm sure you know what you're talking about. I'm just not comfortable that this is a speedy deletion candidate. You should probably use WP:PROD, or take it to Articles for deletion instead. Regards, --Canley (talk) 13:46, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please have a look at the talk page and tell me what you think? I made some points and I would like to know what other editors think about them. --Giorgos Tzimas (talk) 13:47, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeia sou Sthenele. I would really appreciate your further contributions to this article so please air your grievances wrt to structure so we can correct them and keep you interested in editing it. I am really keen on getting this to GA and would like your help. Apart from the problem area spotted by George on language and nationalism there is a real need for more in-line citations. FA articles have in the region of 100-120 while ours has only 60 as of now, even after I added about 10. So more citations are needed. Thanks for your time.Xenovatis (talk) 14:29, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

talk:Alexander the Great

In general, civil comments on talk pages are not a problem. While it's annoying to have someone bring up the same objection over and over on a talk page, that's much less of problem than having an editor adding the same material to an article repeatedly. If you don't agree with an editor on a talk page then just let it go. If an editor is distorting consensus, being uncivil, or otherwise disrupting the editing process then I suggest a user RfC may be a good way of bringing editors together to discuss the problematic behavior and to show the subject editor the error of his ways. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 22:24, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
