FL

hello, look I found a new source to complete at List of best-selling albums worldwide, tell me accept my Contributions http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/6251176.stm —Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.72.236.180 (talk) 21:27, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure if we'll have a chance at List of best-selling albums worldwide becoming FL. It looks like there's too many source-related problems with it. This isn't an easy list to improve. And we have yet to get a support, with the exception of you and me. But, it can't hurt to try, but we'd better be prepared to get new sources. Cheers, Kodster (heLLo) (Me did that) 17:22, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Like a Rolling Stone

Finally, Rurhfisch got his PR in. Would you mind helping me with it when you get the chance? Thanks. Cheers, Kodster (heLLo) (Me did that) 19:00, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

LOL, exams. Good times. ;) I'll look for some sources for the list. Cheers, Kodster (heLLo) (Me did that) 19:06, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikibreak

Hey, I just wanted to let you know that I am going to Europe on business, and will be taking a Wikibreak until June 12 (2008, of course). I'll try to get an hour or two into Wikipedia tomorrow, but then the Wikibreak template goes on my page and that's it. Good luck with your articles, and try to catch up on Like a Rolling Stone if you have the chance (it'd be a pity to see it go to waste). So, until June... --Cheers, Kodster (heLLo) (Me did that) 01:26, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your Wikipresent

Since I won't be here on May 27 for your Wikibirthday, here's your early present!

Happy editing! --Cheers, Kodster (heLLo) (Me did that) 21:37, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou, man its gonna be so boring with you away for like three weeks. ;-( --Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 21:40, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

LOL, editing from the airport. I'll be here for an hour or two (mainly using Huggle). Cheers, Kodster (heLLo) (Me did that) 22:32, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Backlash

Can I add your name to WP:GAN page, since your reviewing Backlash? SexySeaShark 16:03, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for reviewing it. Speed CG Talk 15:33, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've blocked him for 31 hours. He's uploaded that same image three times now. Enough is enough. --Rodhullandemu 18:05, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've just given this a quick read, and I can see the problem. Good idea to use the RIAA figures, but using older sources is definitely going to be a problem for a FL. Every "i" needs dotting, every "t" crossing, and the sourcing must be impeccable for featured content. I've seen problems with these types of comparative lists before, and it is largely one of original research since it can't be possible to be sure that your sources cover a truly "worldwide" perspective; sales are usually pretty well-documented, however. Not sure where you'd go with that one. Obviously you can discount markets such as Albania, but figures for larger countries such as Germany & Australia may be less easy to find. It's also important that sales are over comparable time periods, which makes the old sources a problem. An example of this is sales by Nick Drake, whose records sold most about thirty years after his death. Best of luck, but all I can suggest is that you keep on looking for sources. --Rodhullandemu 19:45, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Aye, there seems to be no way that we can pull the list off as it is (or even at all) as an FL without having ONE big worldwide list. Oh well, nothing to do but keep looking and maybe find one... --Cheers, Kodster (heLLo) (Me did that) 20:12, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

I'll always be around. My interest in the article is to get it to FA. I left it as my interference did nothing, so I hoped my avoidance would do something better. And it has apparently. --Manboobies (talk) 20:36, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the themes section is just plain naff. I'm sensing a forced POV in both directions. Perhaps it could just discuss his different styles. IE:

"Jackson worked with Disco, funk and Soul on Off the wall, Funk, rock and pop on Thriller, more modern hip hop influences were present in Dangerous in the New Jack Swing style"

It would all require sourcing or changing to whatever a few books on the subject have to say. I'm working on getting somebody to make a program or script so you can just type the author and book into a dialogue and it comes up with the ref tag for you. Have you noticed how complicated sourcing is at the moment? No wonder the newbies don't do it. I barely manage it myself, it's too complicated! The Wiki requires more user tools for this complicated task.--Manboobies (talk) 20:56, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Are you suggesting you write the content and I alter it for language flow then? Sounds fine. Which sources are you planning on using? I will endevour to obtain any books required. As for the degree, I'm doing one. It's much easier to cite books in MS Word using the software the university provides. I type Author into the author box, title into the title box, page number, the ISBN into the ISBN box, then hit store. It's so easy. Then I just type in a new page number for the diferent pages. It takes me seconds. Wikipedia has crap tools for its embattled contributors (With constant attacks at us, we are all constantly on edge, making attacks against others ourselves out of frustration). Frankly how Wiki can take sourcing seriously when there is no easy tool to use to create citation tags is a complete mystery to me. --Manboobies (talk) 21:24, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I left to focus on academic work. I'm still doing that now. However I can dedicate time to a plan. How would you like to make the plan? I think if we start with a mind map on http://www.mindomo.com . We can create a plan there. Really brain storming is the best start. We call it mind maps now tho, because of the negative connotations brain storm has to people with epilepsy. I've signed up and created an initial mind map. If you give me your email address and sign up as well, I'll add you as a writable user and you can work on the mind map with me for a plan. --Manboobies (talk) 21:44, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You'll recieve an invitation to work on the mind map with me. You click on the main topic in the middle and hit subtopic to make a new bubble. Then drag it around. Themes on the left, genres on the right. Then, I thought maybe we could come up with potential sources for the information by clicking on the subtopic, hitting subtopic again and writing in the little bubble that branches off what source we'll use to prove the claim.--Manboobies (talk) 21:58, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
One of us can work on the plan at a time (both of us working on it would be almost impossible to sync and follow anyway). Hit save to make your changes visible to me.--Manboobies (talk) 22:02, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, late a look what i did, im just getting to grips with it at the moment. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 22:19, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's absolutely fine. It's a set of good additions. I think this method of communication isn't quite fast enough tho. Do you have an instant messenger application? We can discuss our changes properly thru that. I have gtalk (to talk to aol members) and msn if you prefer that. Let me know. Also, Where I am (South of England in the UK) it is now 11:20pm, so I must be off for a shower and bed. But I will be around tomorrow to read your changes, and if you're not around, I'll discuss them here, and if you are, we can discuss them on an instant messaging program. Sound good? --Manboobies (talk) 22:24, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This one is fer real

Sorry... Looks like this Janet Jackson tour is for real: [1]. There's enough out there that this checks out... --Jayron32.talk.contribs 20:37, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, we should keep an eye on her official site (the Island Records one is much better than janetjackson.com, which is entirely impossible to navigate and learn anything). The Island Records site has not been updated since March 5, but apparently she announced it today on the Ellen show. It may take a few more days for the really reliable stuff to catch up, but looking at the volume of blogs and other sites reporting this, it is quite likely a real deal. It wouldn't make much point to delete it since it looks reasonable that it will happen, and the reliable press just needs a day or two to catch up... --Jayron32.talk.contribs 20:47, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
[2] I think we can lay it to rest. If the associated press says its a go, we can prolly trust them. Anyhoo, thanks for keeping your eyes out for shenanigans, and let me know if I can ever do anything for ya... --Jayron32.talk.contribs 22:59, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I say let it sit. I can merge the histories back together once we have it worked out what the real name is... --Jayron32.talk.contribs 23:14, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Rock Witchu" is just ghetto! I hope the actual name is "Rock With U" or simply "Discipline". The Bookkeeper (of the Occult) 23:49, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I have been real busy. Would you mind helping out with new page patrol. That place is a mess right now. I have to constantly switch between the np and rc pages. Exhausting.:(Xp54321 (Talk,Contribs) 22:50, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's okay. Article improvement is just as important as anti-vandalism not more. Also just a quick fyi Kodster is in europe and busy. I rolled back vandalism(I knew rollback would come in handy I have used it about 20 times since then) on his userpage and he managed to respond but also told me that would be his last edit till mid june.Xp54321 (Talk,Contribs) 23:00, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
LOL, hello. It's 2:20 A.M. and I'm practically asleep, but I managed to ask The Exalted One an interesting question about anti-vandalism tools (see here). Anyway, I won't be planning many more of these late-night Wikicramming sessions, but I just wanted to pop in to say hello. :) Cheers, Kodster (heLLo) (Me did that) 02:25, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Michael Jackson

Regarding this edit [3]. If you want the article featured you need the sources in the lead. Only trying to help  Funky Monkey  (talk)  19:20, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So, I bought the new Madonna album last night and I was kinda disapointed. With the exception of 4 minutes and The Devil Wouldn't Recognize You, i think this was her least impressive album. Most of the songs on the album are down right boring. Nice vioce, nice lyrics, but boring none the less. The Bookkeeper (of the Occult) 21:02, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hehe. I like the cover and the whole candy theme, I just wish it were a better concept album musically. All the song have this very somber/small/slow feel to them. I thought this was going to be another upbeat dance album like Confessions. The Bookkeeper (of the Occult) 21:08, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Confessions

Sure. I was drained so I wasn't able to finish the lead or do some copy edits. I'll take a look. --Efe (talk) 06:27, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Userbox

Yes, I am aware that the userbox is there twice. I have it there on the top to make it easily noticeable, and I have it down in the Wikipedia section, where it would normally be. I'm in the process of revamping my userpage, so it probably won't be like that for very much longer. Thanks for pointing it out, though. Useight (talk) 04:05, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I wanted to talk with you about the comments at that page. I know we are disagreeing there, you put more stock than me in WP:AGF, which is very commendable and respectable. I apparently put more stock in WP:DUCK than you. Regardless of the outcome of a checkuser, if there is one, I'm not holding a grudge against Xp54321 and nobody else will either. You'll notice that only about three editors ever commented on the page. I would appreciate you not slinging mud at me when I talked about a potential sockpuppet on a sockpuppet case page. You'll notice that other editors were voicing the same opinion regarding the evidence as me with this edit, this edit, and this edit, all from different users, but I don't see you running around bashing them. Please refrain from ad hominem comments, such as my judgment lapsing, when we're having a civil discussion about sockpuppetry. If there weren't people on both sides of a discussion, there wouldn't be a discussion at all. I hope we can just put this disagreement behind us and get back to improving the encyclopedia. Useight (talk) 04:21, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Im not interested in how other editers behave at these cases, im interested in what i saw come from you regarding a case i happened to come across. Im not the guardian of wikipedia, if i happen to see others do what you did i would tell them straight off. Just because others have acted like you doesnt make it right. A lot of people vandalise, by your notion thats ok then. I expect better, thats all, i have some respect for you, i usually read all your comments at RfA and often agree or disagree per Useight's comment. But this was unexpected and not appropriate. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 04:28, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Again, I am as apologetic as humanly possible. I hope not to tarnish any respect you have for me, and realize I may have jumped the gun a little and been a bit too hasty. I hope you can forgive me for my out-of-character comments, and I hope Xp54321 can, too. I know there's never a good excuse for helping make someone's bad day worse, but I did have a bad day today as well, it was raining, my car refused to start, and I didn't do real hot on a test. I've done my best, with edits like this and this and even sent him an e-mail, to make sure he knows that he's a valuable contributor and that I don't want to see him leave. If there's anything else I can do, about this incident, or anything else, don't hesitate to ask. P.S. - I also agree, Wisdom89 should be an admin. Useight (talk) 05:29, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Its ok, youve done what you can, i hope hes innocent and comes back, hes only 13, hes trying his best im sure. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 05:35, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're right, he's 13. I hadn't even noticed that on his userpage. Aw, man, I was mean to a kid. But that does console my conscience as to why he stopped editing earlier, he probably has school at 7:30 in the morning and had to get to bed. I'm sure he's doing his best, it's actually quite noble for a 13-year-old to do volunteer work on Wikipedia. Hopefully he'll be back editing tomorrow. Useight (talk) 05:44, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
