A Mexican Briton (Spanish: Mexicano Británico) is a person of Mexican ancestry living in the United Kingdom (born and/or raised in the UK), they can be either British citizens or non-citizen immigrants. The Mexican British community is a fairly small compared to other British ethnic groups but a rapidly growing one, like many other Latin American communities. Mexicans only began to emmerge in the UK in the late 20th Century, and the vast majority of them reside in London, although there many other communities across the UK.
Population
According to the 2001 UK Census, a meer 5,000 Mexican born people were living in the UK, [2] representing just over 8% of the UK's Latin American born community, considering most recent estimates of 700,000 to 1 million ethnically Latin American people in the UK, there are likely to be between 55,000 and 80,000 Mexican Britons.[3] Also worth of notes is that some 20,000 Mexican Americans also live in the UK.[4] These numbers could be seen as overestimates or underestimates, but it is hard to tell how many Mexican people actually live in the UK, due to the fact that stating Mexican ancestry was not an option in the 2001 Census, and due to the fact that in around a decade, the Latin American British population has soared to around one million.
