Cherat is a town in Peshawar District in the North West Frontier Province of Pakistan. Cherat fort is used by elite Special Services Group of Pakistan Army.

Villages

The main village in Cherat is Dak ismail khel,Saleh Khana,Chapri,Jarroba and Speen khak . These are the main tribes and there are mountains as the shungrei mountains,Star Ghar mountains,Tapu sar mountain and naray daag , and a place called barn.the main big mountain region is sulemani sar which are co mountain of kohe sulemanee mountain range. People of these villages are living example of unity, who share and follow generations old culture.

Tribes

The main clanse which called "Khel" in Dak ismail khel is Jalal khel, Nathoo khel, Shaheen khel,borri khel,koz miangaan,bar miangaan,shnay sar,melgay kourona and Hospatal korona. in Jarroba are similer as like speen khak and Dak ismail khel. The main clans in Saleh Khana are Gunrh Khell, Mias Khell, Qurban khell, Duraan Khell, and Moondh Khell. The main clans in adjoining Shangre are Amir Jan Khell, pronounced as Manjar khell. Tatar Khell , Tarqan Khell , Shatar Khell,and Namawar Khell pronounced Lamawar khel.

History

British Era

As part of British India, Cherat was a hill cantonment and sanatorium for British troops, from 1861 onwards it was used during the hot weather as a health station for the British troops quartered in the hot and malarious valey of Peshawar.It's still very good place for tourists, but no body can go there because of Army of Pakistan. Pakistan Special Services Group SSG head quarter is Cherat, so for that reasons, no other person can go there to visit
