Changing username/Simple
This page is a forum in which users can request, and global renamers (including stewards) can consider and carry out, requests to rename accounts to usernames that are not yet taken on any Wikimedia project. While global renamers carry out renames, other users (including bots) help by "clerking" the mechanics of this process. If you wish to help as a clerk, please read the linked page carefully.

Instructions
For help 'vanishing' from Wikipedia,
please see courtesy vanishing.

Once you have decided on the name you would like:

  1. Read this page first. You must be aware of, and understand, all of that information before requesting a username change
  2. Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name here. If the name appears in the results, even if on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
  3. Do not create an account under the new name or move/redirect your userpages. We'll do that for you.
  4. Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Click here to place your request.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=
    • Do not change anything after CURRENT=
  6. Make sure that you have spelt your desired name correctly, including capitalization and spacing. Save the page. If your request is submitted malformed, please remedy it according to this page.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any questions that may arise regarding your request. Please be patient. It may take a few days for your request to be completed. If you do not answer any questions, your request may be declined due to no response.
  8. Once your request has been completed, please do not remove or change your request. It will be archived automatically by a bot.
  • Requests that do not adhere to these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

Important Notes After you are renamed...
  • Due to technical limitations, usernames may not start with a lowercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase title}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference.
  • Underscores and spaces are considered identical by the MediaWiki software.
  • Use of a company, organization, group, website, or product name as a username is prohibited by the username policy.
  • Please understand the implications of using your real name before requesting a name change to it.
  • ... your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited.
  • ... your userpage and any subpages will be moved to the new name automatically. Please do not attempt to move them yourself.
  • ... links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be left behind to your new userpage.
  • ... your request will be automatically moved to the archives in the interest of transparency.

Current requests

MichaelXX2* → MichaelXX2

  •  Bureaucrat note: Did you recently create an account under this name on Commons? --Dweller (talk) 09:45, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes, why? MichaelXX2* (talk) 18:45, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Bureaucrat note: Please log in there and post a note on your talk page that it is you. Then post the diff here and we should be able to complete your request. Thanks. --Dweller (talk) 10:14, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jamescocks → James_Cocks

US - Jimmy Slade → Jimmy Slade

And I also have name "Jimmy Slade" in ru-wiki. US - Jimmy Slade (talk) 17:43, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That said, I'm not necessarily opposed to the rename. But I think that at this point, the user should probably reveal all other accounts. - jc37 04:37, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it's my previous pages. I forget about. So, my current userpage can be rename? US - Jimmy Slade (talk) 15:53, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have any other accounts? - jc37 18:30, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, don't have others. US - Jimmy Slade (talk) 05:21, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

SethPack → MSP_Aviator

Bureaucrat note: Underscores register as spaces due to technical restrictions. Do you want to continue? bibliomaniac15 22:13, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Annrobb → Idesigni

Geowise → Data-visualization-tools

Hello, firstly just want to say that i am not using this wiki page to promote any business, but thought quite interested to put some information regarding the software up as i have done some research into this interesting software. secondly, why i created this page, it is because i saw a page created by tableau_software(username), and the user is using TABLEAU_SOFTWARE for the page regarding TABLEAU products, why would they be allowed and I am not when i am not even from the organisation. Thank you very much —Preceding unsigned comment added by Geowise (talkcontribs) 15:03, 11 May 2009 (UTC) Forgot to confirm in my last reply, that i have read WP:COI and understand it applies regardless of username. Thank you —Preceding unsigned comment added by Geowise (talkcontribs) 15:11, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Bureaucrat note: I see no evidence of a User:TABLEAU_SOFTWARE or User:tableau_software - can you post a link? In any case, all I'd do is block that user - it doesn't help your case. I am unprepared to grant this request, but will not deny it. I'm happy for another Bureaucrat to review it and make the call. It's possible I've got it wrong. --Dweller (talk) 12:44, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is the link of the user tableau_software, you can take a look, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tableau_Software. Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Geowise (talkcontribs) 08:30, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Clerk note: That link refers to an article, not a username. The article may or may not be notable but that is another issue unrelated to this board. -- Alexf(talk) 14:14, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I will think of a new name that is not related to the content on my page, thank you.

C_1 → C1

  •  Clerk note: The MediaWiki software treats underscores as spaces, and vice versa, so "C 1" should produce the same result. –Juliancolton | Talk 15:15, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Bureaucrat note: Hi. We have a user with that name already, but I think you'd find us prepared to usurp it for you if you register a request at WP:USURP. Other alternatives: log in using a space instead of an underscore, like Julian suggests, or choose another name to switch to. Up to you. --Dweller (talk) 22:11, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Themaeeandhisfriend → Shannon

Note: I have around 200 more edits more than the limit of 5000 for changing username. Is that okay? themaeetalk 20:39, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • SoxBot has evaluated this request, and a problem(s) was found. Although the requested username exists, the user has not made any contributions to Wikipedia. Therefore, you can place a request to usurp the username at WP:USURP. SoxBot VI (talk) 20:42, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • The bot means "Shannon" already exists; however, you can still take that name via WP:USURP. :) –Juliancolton | Talk 20:50, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Clearly, when I took a look at the link to User:Shannon, that username has neither a user page, talk page, or any contribs. But how does it exist? themaeetalk 20:52, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
For informational purposes, the request was put in at WP:USURP, here. Also, the username change edit limit is far higher than 5,000; I believe it to be 200,000 edits. Useight (talk) 21:41, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not done Gotta go thru WP:USURP. No problems other than that, though. EVula // talk // // 22:39, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Given the SUL issues with the username "Shannon", you're not likely to get this unless you are the German Wikipedia account holder. Sorry. EVula // talk // // 03:51, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Really? [1] WJBscribe (talk) 23:07, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You come back just to highlight the fact that I totally failed to check the SUL report and solely went off the above discussion? Ouch, man. :P EVula // talk // // 03:49, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Just keeping you on your toes ;) ... WJBscribe (talk) 21:35, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
So this is a global account and was never used? But since it hasn't made any contribs to the English Wikipedia, (for a long time), it should be fine? themaeetalk 04:07, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Just curious, I'm not sure what SUL means, could you please clarify? themaeetalk 04:07, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
So therefore, the renaming is not done? Or can it be still done by WP:USURP? themaeetalk 04:09, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I get it now. I'll just wait until ClueBot VI is fixed and I'll use WP:USURP to change username. Cheers, themaeetalk 05:03, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
With the advent of SUL, individuals can have the same username across projects. Basically, while the English Wikipedia account called Shannon has zero edits and could be usurped, the individual with the username Shannon on the German Wikipedia has first dibs on it. Useight (talk) 06:15, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK. So if the German Wikipedia account holder does not respond on the English Wikipedia in a week, then I am allowed to usurp that username. themaeetalk 20:38, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Given the technical difficulties with this issue, if it can't be fixed, I'll just change my username to something else, and forget trying to usurp this existing username.themaeetalk 20:49, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, I am afraid the name isn't available regardkess of whether the German Wikipedia account holder responds - they have created a "global account", which means that they have reserved the name on across all Wikimedia Projects. It isn't a matter of fixing a technical issue - this is how the system is supposed to work. WJBscribe (talk) 21:35, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Not done Please place a new request below or stick with your current username. Sorry. --Dweller (talk) 16:23, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I changed the user-name in the request above after the administrator said the original new name i asked for won't work but then that got rejected? Ghc35 has nothing in common or that could be seen to be to do with the topic I have edited - as far as I'm aware!? Sorry for the confusion... —Preceding unsigned comment added by T878h0 (talkcontribs) 22:36, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
