|style="vertical-align: middle; border-top: 1px solid gray;" | Thanks for all your work maintaining the article [[July 2009 Ürümqi riots]] during its time on the main page. This has been a difficult and thankless task, working at a frenetic pace for 4 days straight so far (I, for one, have been getting very little sleep), and it's only been thanks to coordinated efforts and discussion from numerous editors that the article has been kept as neutral and informative as possible. This is the most collaboration I've done, with the largest number of editors once, since I have joined Wikipedia, and I think the results are showing; while it's not perfect, when my friends and family ask me about what's going on in Urumqi, I have been more comfortable recommending this article than any other source. ==My opinion==

your comment on grpoecunt lane article "And you will be taken seriously? -- 李博杰 | —Talk contribs email 12:07, 9 July 2009 (UTC)" is a personal attack and entirely uncalled for - I am entitled to me opinion like everyone else and I want to see wiki move from silly articles like this to a true encycolpedia. If you cannot be mature keep your comments to yourself.

Could you help me ?

Sorry for poor English.

Hello 李博杰. Could you tell me the difference between "全国游泳锦标赛" and "全国游泳冠军赛" ? I want to translate this two words into English. In the machine translation, both are translated into the same words "National Swimming Championships".--NAZONAZO (talk) 12:15, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry. Thank you for the reply.--NAZONAZO (talk) 19:03, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

So you were born in Australia, yet claim your Chinese? Alright then, that settles the race debate, now get the fuck out of my country you spy.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.107.174.100 (talk) 12:34, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, sure. Unfortunately it's rather hard to get such a visa on an Australian passport, would you mind in helping me? I might be able to get for you a home ticket to Great Britain, too. You must miss your parents. -- 李博杰  | Talk contribs email guestbook complaints 12:36, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello User:58.107.174.100, and welcome to Wikipedia!

It appears that you are new to Wikipedia. I would like to encourage that you enjoy your stay here, and would like to make a few clarifications. Wikipedia is not a travel agency, and is therefore unable to plan holidays for any individuals. If you would like a holiday to Great Britain, or would like to book a holiday to China for friends, family, or any stranger in particular, please consult a travel agency instead. There are many different agencies available online. Also note that Wikipedia is not an embassy, and is unable to grant visas for passports. May I also add that Wikipedia is not an intelligence agency; we are unable to obtain any classified military, political or industrial data for any individuals wo may require them.

New Zealand and Australiazia recession

You posted a comment here about Australia and NZ not being in a recession. (Well, maybe only Australia.)

New Zealand's GDP declined by 0.2 percent in the second quarter putting the country in its first recession in a decade.

-From Wikipedia's own page

So, NZ is in a recession. --121.72.176.12 (talk) 07:13, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

your WP:ANI report

Thanks for reporting User:Bullocker The Blue Bull, I've blocked him as an unauthorised bot.

That said, would you consider toning down your signature a little? Since you've added the black background to it it's getting a bit excessively large and attention-grabbing. ~ mazca talk 08:48, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you have a moment, could you quickly check my translations (esp. of ref titles) in this new article? I'm about to submit it to DYK; it's not urgent or anything, but I know my translations aren't exactly right so it would be nice to get them cleaned up a bit. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 05:13, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thanks for checking! rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 05:49, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Signature length

Please see WP:SIG#Length and modify it to be 255 characters. Technically, you aren't supposed to be subst'ing it either, but as long as you keep it 255 characters or less you can do so. –xenotalk 07:14, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have cut off about 220 bytes, however am still over. I wish to maintain my design (including colours, etc), however due to the complexity of HTML, it would be rather difficult to keep it so. Currently my sig is physically no more than 4cm in length (when viewed in 1440x900), and so I would like to ask if it would be possible for it to be only over by 40-odd bytes. Also note that Chinese characters are two-byte characters (although this would not have too much an effect). Additionally, much of the extra length is due to the HTML coding for the font to be small. If I were to slice off the next possible section, my sig would become big, ugly and space-cluttering when viewed physically, possibly resulting in a worse-off result than originally intended. Currently it is as small as possible while keeping the current aesthetics. I don't believe that being over by 40-odd bytes due to aesthetics is a strictly bad thing, as it is not libellous, offensive, a hinderance to the Wikipedia server, an annoyance to other users, or disapproving in any way. There are also many other users with much more complex sig designs, yet are physically the same length as that of mine. -- 李博杰  | Talk contribs email 07:34, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry about it. Some people might be annoyed, but it's just a guideline, you're not killing anyone or anything. You always have the choice to use a signature that not everyone likes. As for subst'ing, I believe Garden also uses a subst'ed signature? rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 13:43, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Garden has a subst'ed sig, but keeps it compliant with sig restrictions. It's better now, but I still think you could save space by getting rid of the "email" button. Most wiki users (at least as far as I've seen) would sooner post to your talk page then email you straight away off a talk page contrib. YMMV. best, –xenotalk 15:19, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That's a good point; at least as for me, I rarely send or receive wiki e-mail. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 15:26, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RS question

Any idea if this is a reliable source? It's from dayoo.com, which I'm not familiar with; the first page of the article is here. Since it's about plastic surgery and stuff, I wanted to be careful about using it in any BLP articles; I considered posting at RS/N but figured most people there would not be able to read it. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 16:42, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oops, never mind, it looks like that is an article that's been widely reprinted on news websites without the original being credited (nothing new for mainland news :P). The earliest one I can find is this, which credits the source as Eastern Daily (itself). rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 19:00, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fun with numbers

Looking at Chinese numbered policies made me aware of a couple things that might make fun article projects. 四大件 and 四小花旦 both have articles on zh-wiki but not here. 四小花旦 might require a lot of research and digging around to find anything interesting to say other than "this is who they are", but 四大件 is probably pretty easily notable (I remember it from my 2nd-year Chinese textbook :P).

I also added a bit at the bottom of that article about numbers in chengyu. I don't have any sources handy; I have an old chengyu dictionary at home which might have some helpful stuff in its introduction (once I take the time to read it—I'm a slow reader in Chinese), but I won't be back there until early August. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 02:51, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Urumqi 'cyber wars' and your aunt's ka-yoo ka-yoo

(sorry about "ka-yoo ka-yoo", that's just how my ex-girlfriend's mom from Wuhan always pronounced QQ and I have never quite gotten it out of my head)

I agree 100% with your comments at the Urumqi riots talk page, and the reports of tech-savvy ultra-modern Netizens facing off against the evil Chinese GFW dictatorship are always way over-hyped. Posting things on YouTube and Flickr suddenly makes people the cyber-geniuses of today's modern Internet era? Please...these articles always sound like they're written by my grandma. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 19:10, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, do you have any idea who this user might be? Judging by [1] and [2], he seems to have it out for you, which suggests to me that it might be a sock of someone you've had a dispute with before. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 22:27, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'd have no idea. Possibly either some nationalist editor from a Turkic country, or an anti-China editor from the States, either way both anti-China, pro-independence. It seems that, by looking at the user's contribs, the only two edits ever made were the ones you noted. Possibly a smelly sock, in my opinion. If the edits continue, maybe request for Checkuser? -- 李博杰  | Talk contribs email 03:25, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for all your work trying to maintain the peace at this article, and explaining policies to newcomers. (Also, I liked your 和平汉子是好汉子, never heard that one before; the only other idiom I knew of about 好汉子 was 不到长城非好汉 ;) ). rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 04:20, 9 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstar

The Ürümqi Barn"star"
Thanks for all your work maintaining the article July 2009 Ürümqi riots during its time on the main page. The work is far from over, but now that this article is off the main page I think it's finally time to thank the editors Seb az86556, Colipon, Jim101, Ohconfucius, Benlisquare, Simonm223, and Jinhuili for all their contributions; while we had disagreements, I think each of these editors has been particularly active and has made real efforts to improve the article.rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 20:07, 9 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
