== I am missing... ==

You removed me from the list of missing Wikipedians on the basis that there was no message. An ever-so-quick glance at my history would have shown a clear notice why I have left this disastrous project (more the shame as it's a very good idea). I've reinstated myself there. I hope that's OK with you.

Question about vandalism

Hello Squeakbox,
Thank you for the recent welcome. Is it possible to prevent persons from vandalising pages as was recently done for the Guyana page (see list of Presidents on http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Guyana&oldid=28543829)? Can wikipedia lock pages so that they are only editable by known editors for instance?
Thanks, RedSpider

Question about subpages (like archives)

One, is there a way to get at, say, talk:me/drafts/unknownpage1, talk:me/drafts/unknownpage2, talk:me/drafts/unknownpage3, when all you know is talk:me/drafts/? I do know talk:me/drafts/* does not work.

Cheers,

-SM

P.S. Beautiful Dog!

I made jokes about it, but it was very grounding, and should be required reading.

Thanks for your support on my RfA!

Thanks for your support of my adminship!! I was surprised at the turnout and support I got! If you ever have any issues with any of my actions, please notify me on my talk page! Thanks again! Ryan Norton T | @ | C 03:50, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Cuba infobox

Actually, I wasn't the one who deleted it this time. However, I fail to see why we should have a template used on only one article. If you intention was to avoid halting the edit wars over the info box content by moving it to a template, it won't work. The info box was previously a separate custom template, before the content was switched to use the standard Infobox Country template, and it was subject to just that type of edit war. So yes, I will be taking this template to TfD. It serves zero purpose to separate this out into a template. Caerwine 20:01, 15 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have taken this to TfD. I see zero reason to do what you propose as it involves creating a bunch of templates that will each be used only on a single article. Caerwine 20:12, 15 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Most assuredly I will be taking them all to TfD, single article templates are a waste of server space and don't do anything to simply things. Caerwine 20:18, 15 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, I noticed that it had been blanked out by Natus Roma's comment when I added my reply. By the way, the United States article calls {{Infobox Country}} directly, so there was no need on my part to call for the deletion of a non-existant intermediary template. Caerwine 22:37, 15 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

3RR

This is what I see (I didn't bother to provide diffs, but will if you want them):

  • 19:41, October 15, 2005 SqueakBox (edit the template but do NOT remove it)
  • 22:45, October 15, 2005 SqueakBox (rv there is aTfd, don't try to suppress debate on the infobox by reverting before a decision has been made, ie the infoboxes are separate and the delete debate needs voting on)
  • 22:56, October 15, 2005 SqueakBox (why not try stopping suppressing debate and contain yourself while the debate continues instead of telling me not to edit!)
  • 23:18, October 15, 2005 SqueakBox (avoiding suppression of debate withkout breaking the 3RR rule that Hottentot has violated)

I apologize; the first time I checked the article you hadn't made the fourth revert and would not have been in violation. However, shortly after reporting the 3RR violation, you reverted. Policy states that I have to treat both sides equally; it doesn't matter if one side has already violated 3RR — you can't violate it even if the other party is blocked. Thanks! Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk | WS 23:26, 15 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Uncalled attacks? I apologize if I offended you; however, I just felt that RfRR should not be implemented. Anyways, that is irrelevant: I see four reverts within a 24 hour time limit. Thanks for your understanding! Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk | WS 23:28, 15 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
My deepest apologies. Mea culpa; I've unblocked you. Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk | WS 23:30, 15 October 2005 (UT

The 4th one was not a revert if you look closdely I did not replace the infobox as I had 3 times but insteasd left it as it was with the code and added some brand new text to the article informing people of the deletion debate. That is not a revert, and your blocking me for not reverting a 4th time is noty on, especvially given you attacking me yesterday. Unblock me now or I will oput an rfc for abuse of powers againsyt you, SqueakBox 23:40, 15 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Umm... you were unblocked before you made that edit. Again, my deepest apologies, it was a mistake in judgement. Mea maxima culpa. SqueakBox, also not that I don't bear any grudge against you, even though I opposed your RfRR yesterday. You are a valuable contributor to Wikipedia, and your efforts are appreciated. Thanks for your understanding. Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk | WS 23:35, 15 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Sorry, I just unblocked the autoblocker that I completely forgot about. :-)

Country templates

SqueakBox, the aconsejo que por favor no reemplazes the parametrisized country templates (Template:Infobox Country) with template links (ie. Template:Chile infobox). I had a big, long edit war with the community over this (doing the same you are doing now), and I lost, and got blocked, and it was nasty, so I know it's not a clever idea. The community consensus was to keep country infobox tables on the country page (the code) and continually convert the tables to parametrisized templates. (The vote is on some page on Wikipedia, but I can't seem to find it now.) Gracias por escuchar.Cantus 03:54, 16 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bond

I don't believe sources are necessary in this instance. I had a similar argument over the use of the term "sex symbol" with regards to Marilyn Monroe. There are certain facts that, once something becomes culturally iconic, no longer require sourcing. Monroe being considered a sex symbol is one, Elvis Presley being considered the most popular rock and roll singer of all time is another, and Star Trek being called the most popular science fiction franchise of all time is still another. The EON films are what the vast majority of people on this planet know the James Bond name from, moreso than Fleming's novels, and certainly moreso than any other element of the franchise. I agree sourcing is important, but at times it is simply unneeded. Cheers. 23skidoo 18:40, 16 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect

Your bot messed up El Progreso Department by changing this from a redirect to El Progreso department to a redirect to itself. Please take care, SqueakBox 15:31, 16 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Not my fault. You pointed El Progreso Department to El Progreso department. However, El Progreso department was a redirect to El Progreso Department. Of course, a bot would not be able to resolve this since it was a redirect to itself and to itself... The two links are the history right before the bot edited, by the way. --AllyUnion (talk) 20:15, 16 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Drug

A while ago we discussed turning drug into a disambiguation page. No consensus was reached on Talk:Drug, but you appeared to be supportive of this move. I have now been bold, and am encountering some opposition. Would you awfully mind weighing in at talk:Drug? JFW | T@lk 10:06, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Changing "mass music media" options?

Hey, have you put any more thought into making the mass music media options editable from the Albums discussion page? Their selections aren't as narrow as I had feared, but they still shut out a lot of verifiable music sources like Dusted magazine and CMJ, places where notable underground artists might surface. War-->war

I was wondering why you are changind the articles. I thought specific wars were always capitalized, for example. Livonian War, Iraq War. Take a look at p this for example. I'm not sure which is right, but though I should ask. Falphin 01:15, 18 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I see no notability

about Kate Middleton either. Just because she is rich and is currently engaging in a relationship with royalty doesn't make her worthy of an article. I imagine that Prince William has had several women, thus, she is not notable. Molotov (talk)

everything humans talk about is notable. If I wanna know who is Kate Middleton - why make WP incomplete by deleting? we have enough disc space. Tobias Conradi (Talk) 02:33, 31 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

US centrism

Since you made me aware of it I notice a lot of US centrism. For one, I started moving US specific details out of year pages, such as 1825 into new pages such as 1825 in the United States. But sometimes, it's really hard. Take e.g. the pencil article. Wonderfully written, so I wouldn't want to mess with it. The last paragraph of the history section is only of interest for Americans. While it contributes nothing of interest for the pencil as such, it still is nicely written, so I would like to move it somewhere (but where). Alternatively, I could add another headline that prevents non-Americans from reading it, but I can't think of any. Any ideas? Common Man 03:47, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please help defend Marc Emery Article

[I see you are also under assault from small minds, check out my latest annoyance]

There is some mechanism by which I could ask an admin to revert with a button the latest edit to Marc Emery, but I have no energy to pursue it. Could you see to it? I have been reverting by hand and it is tedious work. This one likely should be a one-button roll-back.

Sorry to ask, thanks in advance, -SM 09:40, 29 October 2005 (UTC)

Wasn't thinking before, figured out what I was missing. Thanks for the note, and the attention at Emery. -SM 07:06, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

Rodriguez Zapatero

Hiya Squeekbox,

Regarding your first comment obviously you are correct in that Gibraltar is a British Colony. The Spanish govt would clearly like to alter that, but that remains the case at present.

With regards spelling I have no idea which is taught in Spanish schools, but I do have a number of Spanish friends, & I shall ask them which they were taught. I'll get back to you ASAP.

Redirecting

When you redirect please don't delete the redirected articvle but merge it with the article being directed to, otherwise you are deleting valuable infornmation without reason. Thankyou, SqueakBox 16:37, 30 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I totally agree with you on this, SqueakBox. I'm not sure what valuable information was lost, though. A link to Departments of Nicaragua ? I confess to not knowing the difference between this and an autonomous region. Thanks for fixing it. -- PFHLai 21:14, 30 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

...nice that you added all the data after I inserted the cat :-))). In the longer run I see a naming problem. "Municipalityname, Departmentname" looks like "city, departmentname". This is confusing, because often these are two things, at least in many european countries. Tobias Conradi (Talk) 02:39, 31 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I've been bold, and jumped in with both feet. I'd appreciate any process feedback you might have, as to tossing out an outline to see who'll fill it, etc. I also experimented with soliciting activists to come and participate. -SM 03:48, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

Votes needed

There is a poll going on at Talk:Arvanitic language#Requested move to move Arvanitic language to Arvanitic (linguistics), to reflect the fact that its status as a language or dialect is disputed. This is done in all other similar cases (Flemish (linguistics), Mandarin (linguistics) etc). Please vote support if you support the move. Rex(talk) 15:50, 1 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Decrim in united states

Hey man. I noticed you removed the U.S. decrim section at Legal issues of cannabis. While I understand your motive for doing it (to make the article parallel the sections for other locations in the world), I oppose to removing the content because I think there is a difference between the American decriminalization movement and the movement to reschedule cannabis. The information you removed is not mirrored at Cannabis rescheduling in the United States, which caters more toward establishing a medical use for cannabis instead of reducing penalties for recreational purposes. Instead of getting rid of information that is sourced and collaborated on, shouldn't we be encouraging the other sections to be expanded instead? --Howrealisreal 17:10, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think the tag on the image is correct, as it would be a photograph taken by a Delaware state official and isn't a work of the United States Federal Government. Evil MonkeyHello 20:30, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You could go and make an argument for fair use on the image. Several people have been tagging images as straight {{PD}} which I also don't think is correct. Or you could request that the image be deleted. Evil MonkeyHello 21:09, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

People of Irish descent in Great Britain

Hi, this category is for people of Irish descent. You have rv various of my edits with the explanation they are not Irish, if you read the category it does not claim they are Irish. Thanks Arniep 18:57, 11 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi I see it was my Ruth Kelly edit that upset you. She was born in Northern Ireland and most Catholics from Northern Ireland identify as Irish. Any person born in Northern Ireland can also have Irish citizenship. Thanks Arniep 19:03, 11 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I have changed Ruth Kelly to Category:People of Irish descent in Great Britain, as she is a British citizen. Regards Arniep 19:06, 11 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Gays and Buju

I deleted it because it has not been proven yet. When he is convicted of gay bashing then he is a gay basher let the courts do their job. Their was no evidence you claim about Buju simply allegations and accusations all unproven in the court of law

I'm not vandaling at all. All I'm saying if you are going to say Sizzla is a gay basher then provide some legal proof. He does have a case that involves that sort of stuff but he has not be convicted and we believe in innocent until proven guilty. Sizzla has not been proven guilty so he is innocent. If you want to say that some people accuse him of being this or that then sure go ahead just not in the Sizzla article because the Sizzla article is about him not his critics. Also you should present them as unproven theories they are not as facts first thing in the article.

Also there was no source cited for the allegede buju assualt. I'm removing the theries until they become facts.

I agree we are not detectives

  • Squeakbox,
Unfortunatly the computer I use (which is used by a local collage) has been using dynamic IP address for several months now. If you'll notice, the time between the edit in question and my last edits on the Talk:Mass racial violence in the United States and on my user page is more then a month. I've been editing for a few hours now so I can check if the edit occured during that time. Thanks for letting me know though. I'll keep an eye on it but feel free to block the IP (as I have an account in any case). MadMax 20:04, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My vandalism?

You've accused me of vandalism in my talk page, but you didn't say what it was about. I use Wikipedia with the intention of contributing to it, and I wouldn't post anything I felt was vandalism. Could you please point out what I did that you consider vandalism? Thanks. Some guy 18:26, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It took me a long time to piece together what happened, but I figured it out. After User: 212.205.76.134 erased the old entry for Thumbshots when he added some information to the Democracy and Nature section, I was following his edits through his contribution list to see if he vandalised/accidentally deleted anything else from the page. It appears that when I finished checking his edits, I decided to nominate thumbshots again, but I forgot to switch from his last edit to the most recent version of the page. The version I edited can be found here. As you probably know, making changes to an old version of a page erases all changes since then. You can see that the parts of the page that were removed or moved around during my edit are all of the parts moved or added after the version I've linked above. I'm extremely sorry about this mistake on my part - it was an accident, but it was stupid and it shouldn't have happened. My apologies. Some guy 05:36, 21 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
