Naofumi Yamamoto[1] (山本 尚史) (born July 1, 1977)[1][2] is a Japanese professional wrestler and boxer. He is currently signed to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) working on its ECW brand, where he wrestles under the ring name Yoshi Tatsu.
Career
New Japan Pro Wrestling (2002–2008)
On December 27, 2003, Yamamoto lost to Ryusuke Taguchi to gain a spot on the card for New Japan's annual Tokyo Dome show, Wrestling World.[4]
On July 26, 2004, Yamamoto defeated esteemed amateur wrestler Yujiro Takahashi in his debut at Korakuen Hall.[5]
After Togi Makabe made his return on January 8, 2006, he teamed up with Toru Yano in a losing effort against Osamu Nishimura and Naofumi Yamamoto.[6]
World Wrestling Entertainment (2008–present)
Florida Championship Wrestling (2008–2009)
In February 2008, Yamamoto left New Japan Pro Wrestling after the annual renewal period, instead signing a developmental contract with World Wrestling Entertainment. He was assigned to Florida Championship Wrestling, where he underwent several name changes, first competing as Yamamoto and then as Yoshitatsu, before tweaking the spelling to Yoshi Tatsu.[1][7]
ECW (2009)
On June 30, 2009, Yamamoto joined the ECW brand as a fan favorite under the ring name Yoshi Tatsu. He had his first match that night, defeating Shelton Benjamin, although he lost a rematch to Benjamin on the July 9 episode of ECW.[8][9]
