Hi Matt, I received a message from you that my submission describing our company "Amramp" was considered advertising. I had this article written to objectively describe our unique product, the benefits it provides, and history behind the company. I completely understand and respect the fact that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. I do not wish to advertise our company. I only wish for our unique product to be described to those who may be interested in learning about Amramp or our special type of ramp. For instance, Coca Cola has a description on Wikipedia. Hi Mark. Thanks for your message. There are a couple issues with the page:
  1. It wasn't written objectively, and appeared to be an advert. This goes against our "What Wikipedia is not" policy. Examples of this are the testimonial and specification sections. Specification of products should be irrelevant to Wikipedia articles as the purpose shouldn't be to sell or describe an item in such manner.
  2. It didn't establish why the company is notable. Have they been featured in multiple independent and reliable sources (such as trade publications or newspapers, or equivalent websites)? Stating that the company does a lot for the community is (unfortunately) not sufficient – we must have a third party deem it relevant enough to cover.
I hope you understand the issues here. Ultimately, our conflicts of interest guidelines states that "you should avoid or exercise great caution when editing articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with". Ernest Cook Trust

Ultimately, it's best if you don't add the information. As a PR company, you have a (presumably financial) interest in this business and there is a conflict of interest. Even if your intentions are good faith – which I wouldn't doubt for a second – we still may experience unavoidable WP:NPOV violations. Our conflict of interest guidelines states that "Where advancing outside interests are more important to an editor than advancing the aims of Wikipedia, that editor stands in a conflict of interest [COI]" and that "COI editing is strongly discouraged". I would make the assumption that you wouldn't be writing the article if you didn't have a commercial link to the Ernest Cook Trust, which implies that outside interests are greater than improving Wikipedia.
As for adding the information, we must assume that content from external websites (such as http://www.ernestcooktrust.org.uk/) cannot be used unless explicitly stated. Our donating copyrighted materials goes through how we can gain permission to use the content. In a nutshell, it states that you can only donate the material if "you are the copyright holder and the content is compatible with policies and guidelines". I hope this all makes sense and you understand our policies/guidelines – just let me know if theres anything else you'd like me to go through or help you with. As I said on my talk page, I don't take quite the same stern view of COI and paid editing that some others do; I prefer to judge the result. I didn't realise I'd "chosen to ignore" any other points of view. I appreciate we may have different views on COI editing, but what's more to say? My posts to the user above outline our community guidelines, and how COIs can affect NPOV. As it is, the user is a blatant violation of WP:USERNAME. Their positive editing led to me giving them the benefit of the doubt (as Julian Colton had issued a soft warning/notice on their web page). You obviously take a similar view (as shown above).
You needn't make such comments about administrators, however. (I appreciate you've had bad experiences at RfA but that's no reason to make such statements). Gunnar Peterson Page

Hello!

I was hoping you could point me in the right direction. I recently created my first wiki page. I see that you moved it to a page that only features his name. Since it was my first article, I was mimicking a style I'd seen other pages for where they had clarification in parenthesis - this edit doesn't cause me any concern. (happy to learn the wiki "best practice")

My problem/question is that after you moved the page - someone else came along and deleted it. Is this because of the move? Is this a vandal? Should I reload the page to just "Gunnar Peterson" as you originally moved it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

a) prove you are the owner, and
b) licence it for use

Hi! The reason I deleted it was that the article did not show why the band were notable. Our notability guidelines for bands states what qualifies a band for inclusion. Other ways of establishing notability are showing that the band have had third-party coverage – have they had reviews, interviews or other coverage in reliable sources? The existence of the band isn't contested – our policy is that just because a subject exists, that isn't sufficient to warrant an article. Help with renaming account

Hi Matt, Thanks for pointing out my account name was a 'no go'. I hadn't realised that it would be a problem and was an honest mistake. Although I work for the publisher of these 'further reading' books, they are genuine and my posts are meant to be aiding readers. Only problem is, I can't change my username as I'm directed because my account is blocked and I'm unabel to edit the page where you request a username change, in order to add my request! Can you suggest how I might go about this? I want to change it to RhoslynS. I've just set this account up in order that I can write you this message, but I don't want to have to go and retype additions I made with the ACCPublishingGroup username. No probs. Although your edits aren't prohibited, you should make yourself aware of our conflict of interest guidelines. As long as your interest in improving Wikipedia is genuinely greater than your work for this publisher, there should not be an issue. In order to move your account (including your edits) to a new username, you should follow the steps at Wikipedia:Changing username. This process is different to signing up for a new account – make sure that you do not register your new username manually. Doing this may stop your edits being able to be re-attributed to your new account.
Basically, think up a new username that complies with our username policy. Then check it doesn't exist by searching for it at Special:ListUsers. If there's no registered account under the name you want, then you're good to follow the process at WP:CHU#Instructions.
Let me know if you need any help with the process – or anything else for that matter. As long as you remember that your edits should be to advance Wikipedia and not your company, I see no problems! Regards, matt (talk) 13:51, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

It's generally best to add an article to Wikipedia when it meets the inclusion criteria. You can edit your article as a subpage to reduce the risk of deletion. As it stands, the article qualified for speedy deletion under WP:CSD#A7, and was deleted. matt (talk) 21:30, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

I deleted the article as it did not assert any notability (as outlined in our notability guidelines for organisations). Has the gang had multiple instances of reliable coverage? That is our basic level of notability. Unfortunately, purely existing isn't grounds for inclusion on Wikipedia – our threshold is being able to verify information through third-party, published sources. matt (talk) 20:54, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Your are able to edit your article right now at Wikipedia:Article Incubator/Procedure Proficiency Software. It's in the "incubator", meaning that it's not quite ready for the encyclopaedia (but someone has decided it has potential). I deleted the Procedure Proficiency Software article in the main namespace (i.e. where articles go) because it had no content.
If you wish to work on the page to get it to Wikipedia standards, you will need to provide multiple third-party reliable references to verify the information in the article. Currently, the link provided on the page does not mention "procedure proficiency software", and so does not count as an applicable source. You must take care to ensure that the article does not become an advert for 3D-JITT – it should be about procedure proficiency software in general. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask! No, it was a hoax. Tim Meyer didn't kill Hitler, free the slaves or find America – all things which were claimed by the article. Any articles we have on legends introduce them as such, whereas if Tim Meyer really was a legend, it was introduced as being fact. Hi Alexa. I deleted the article under the A7 speedy deletion criteria. This was because the article didn't state why the group was notable. Unfortunately, purely being the first at something doesn't mean an article is notable – has the party been covered by reliable independent sources? The sources you provided aren't suitable, as one was the official page and another was a blog post (I couldn't verify whether it was reliably posted by a third-party). If you take a glance at our general notability guidelines, you'll see what it takes (at the absolute minimum) to establish and assert notability and, ideally, keep an article on Wikipedia.

Hi! The reason I deleted it was that it did not indicate how the person was significant. Unfortunately, Wikipedia is not a crystal ball and so can't have information in that isn't verifiable through reliable sources. There are two ways this article can progress:
  1. You can relax and wait until this person is notable. Just because they may not warrant an article now, doesn't mean they wont in the future
  2. You can provide reliable, third-party sources to indicate that they have been deemed notable by someone else. This could be a review or interview, but a blog or official website isn't enough.
I hope this explains why the article was deleted. You're welcome to work on it further, but I'd suggest reading our general notability guidelines to see what can be done (at minimum) to show that the person is notable. They aren't self-published they are made by a third party, who i won't give the name of, and many people have joined the group/fan page, it is also difficult to show much as he has only just started his career and doesn't really attract as much paparazzi or paparazzo as the current A-D list celebrities around as he would be classed as a Z List celebrity which do not attract either type of paps, however he has announced somethings on his official site and other sites that he has —Preceding unsigned comment added by Catilina H (talkcontribs) 20:11, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
If you could provide a link to a copy of the interview I can help you to see whether it is suitable or not. As group or fan numbers can't be verified (who's to say, for instance, that lots of the members of a group aren't duplicates or fake?), that can't be used to quantify notability (see WP:BIG). From my point of view, it looks like this person does not yet pass our notability guidelines. As I said previously, this is not permanent – especially if the interview shows so. Ultimately, you're best off reading our notability guidelines on musicians or entertainers to see whether you believe that this person warrants an article. matt (talk) 00:09, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

Sanguine (band)

Hi Matt

I've taken anything out that is not a fact statment and I have citated all the sources. Apart from this section (which was there originally on Wiki for a number of years!) which has been kept the same as the original:

"First conceived in 2002 by lead singer/songwriter Tarin Kerrey, Sanguine are a four piece, female fronted alternative metal band originating from Exeter in the UK.[1]

Sanguine’s music was never designed with one genre in mind, describing themselves as alt-metal purely because no other term seemed to fit, and their mix of sweet-innocent vocals and music coupled with stab-victim screams and grinding riffs certainly leads you to expect the unexpected. However, like any other music it's better heard than described, so download the free tracks and make up your own mind. If that’s not enough for you then Sanguine are also well know for their energetic shows, always committing every ounce of energy regardless of the venue.

This was reflected at their very first gig where the media said: “A truly mind-blowing…alternative rock/metal outfit who stormed through a sensational set…Sanguine are going to be huge there is no doubt about that, so check them out before they take off to the big time.” ([2])"

Hi Max. The main issue with the article now is that it looks like a CV. Ideally, it should be prose – using an example from Category:British alternative metal musical groups, see how the history section of the Skindred article details the band chronologically, not just listing when they've been covered in the press.
The next step I'd suggest is, though, to find the exact sources for the quotes in the article – so issue numbers, authors and exacts dates would be ideal – URLs are even better. Remember that the article's purpose isn't to promote the band, so numerous references praising their live shows or album (or whatever) aren't necessary. Hi. I deleted the page as it did not credibly show why the subject was notable. Our general notability guidelines state that in order for an article to stand alone, it should have "received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject". Sorry to 'hassle' you again, didn't even know you were a Sysop when I contacted you. After you warned 92.14.250.86 they put the gay actor category back [DIFF], removed recent citation needed tags from Sean Connery [HERE] then moved on to Richard Wilson (Scottish actor) [HERE] which was restoring the only edit by user:Tedarmiger [HERE]. Thanks. I've reverted the Richard Wilson article – I don't think the source given is reliable enough, and does not back up the statement that he is "openly gay". I see you've warned the IP for the WP:3RR on Stephen Boyd, so I'll leave that and keep an eye on it. The Sean Connery edit was semi-constructive (clarifying thousands "of pounds"). The talk page (as well as the article) were semi-protected to prevent further need to suppress edits; each of those usages of oversight you noticed were in response to the same information, a result of the recent events mentioned on the article. As much as I understand and agree with your concerns, I'd prefer the protection remain up for at least a week more to avoid the information being reposted again, for both BLP and legal reasons. It's possible we could set up an "unprotected talk page" like several admins have on their user talk pages, and either link or transclude it to the main talk page, but that's subject to the same problem, so we may as well just unprotect then. Why did you delete "The Resistance Website" page?

I am one of the creators, along with my friend vospader, of The Resistance[1]. I am just wondering why you deleted this page. I think that there is probably a explanation. But I am making sure. We do not know who put the page on, so we are guessing that is why. The only reason why we were glad there was a page for this website is so that people can know why we do what we do. I know that you are on of the admins of Wiki, so I respect your idea. We may ask you to repost it if you allow that.
