Paul Daley (born February 21, 1983) is an English professional mixed martial artist who has fought for EliteXC, Cage Rage, Strikeforce, Maximum Fighting Championship, Cage Warriors, Pancrase and the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He is ranked as the #8 Welterweight in the world by Sherdog.com. He is also ranked by MMAWeekly as the #5 Welterweight in the world.

Mixed martial arts career

Paul was first introduced to martial arts when he began taking karate at the age of 8, Paul has developed into one of the top strikers in all of the United Kingdom. Primarily based in the UK, Daley has been known to hold portions of his training camp in Holland, the number one producer of K-1 heavyweight champions and home to some of the world's most technical Muay Thai strikers. In addition to his training in Holland, Daley is also a member of Team Rough House.

Daley is the current Cage Rage welterweight champion. Paul has had notable fights against Jake Shields for the EliteXC welterweight championship and UFC veteran John Alessio.

Daley was set to fight Jay Hieron at Affliction: Trilogy, but the bout was scrapped due to Affliction Entertainment folding.

Ultimate Fighting Championship

He later signed a four fight contract with the UFC, following Affliction's collapse. Daley's first fight was scheduled to be on the preliminary card of UFC 103 against Brian Foster, which was due to air on ESPN UK, prior to the main card. However, on September 4, it was announced that Paul Daley had agreed to step in for Mike Swick, who suffered an injury during training and was unable to fight Martin Kampmann at UFC 103.

In his UFC debut, Daley put in an aggressive performance, defeating Kampmann via a first round stoppage due to strikes.

Daley was expected to face Carlos Condit on January 2, 2010 at UFC 108. However, Condit would be forced off the card after suffering a severe cut to his hand. He was replaced by Dustin Hazelett.

After failing to make the stipulated 170 lb for the Hazelett fight, Daley was fined 10% of his fight purse. The bout was fought at a catchweight of 172 lbs. Daley defeated Hazelett via first round knockout.

Welterweight contendership

Paul Daley's most recent fight was at UFC 113 against Josh Koscheck. With the winner becoming the next challenger against Georges St-Pierre for the UFC Welterweight Championship and the opportunity to coach against St-Pierre on the twelfth season of The Ultimate Fighter.

After the final bell sounded and the fighters had been separated, Koscheck turned his back to Daley to begin walking back to his corner when Daley threw a punch that hit Koscheck in the face. In an interview at the conclusion of the event, Dana White announced that Daley would never fight in the UFC again. White was quoted as saying, "He'll never come back, I don't care if he's the best 170-pounder in the world. He's never coming back here. There's no excuse for that. You never hit a guy like that after the bell."

Twenty-four hours after the incident at UFC 113, Paul Daley issued an official apology to the UFC and MMA fans around the World: "I would like to apologize to the UFC and the Athletic Commission for what I’ve done as well as all the fans and sponsors that support me. I would also like to offer my sincerest apologies to Josh Koscheck who did not deserve the cheap shot I threw."

Post UFC

Daley will make his first post-UFC appearance when he fights a soon to be announced opponent for the Impact Fighting Championships, in Sydney, Australia.
