M-A92

M-A92 apparently tried to leave a talk message to you on your guestbook. It's all in French, but looks like he might have a valid explanation for what he's been doing with Dalton McGuinty. Bart133 t c @ 05:38, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A92-M ( d) July 16, 2010 at 00:34 (EST) . I do not know writing in English.

(In English) Alright, I understand what you are trying do do. There are two people named Dalton McGuinty, and searching for that name brings you to Dalton McGuinty, Jr. I started a discussion topic on Talk:Dalton McGuinty that recommends renaming the page to "Dalton McGuinty Jr.", and creating a disambiguation page called "Dalton McGuinty." Hope this will help, Coasterlover1994Leave your mark! 17:23, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Espérons que cela aidera, Coasterlover1994Leave your mark! 17:23, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
(In English) Dalton McGuinty was not renamed, however, a note was placed at the top of the page directing people to Dalton  McGuinty, Sr. if they were looking for him. Thanks for bringing that up, Coasterlover1994Leave your mark! 00:28, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
00:28, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I just saw you delivered him a warning via Huggle because he blanked a page. In that case it was totally ok, because he was the author of this new article. Authors of recently created articles may blank the page so as to request its speedy deletion. Anyway, the article NTI Corporation is up for speedy deletion for other reasons, so it didn't matter. But please be a little careful with dealing out vandalism warnings. Regards, De728631 (talk) 19:15, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

He was removing a deletion template, and I was restoring it. The thought of placing a CSD-G7 evaded me at the moment. A CSD-G4 has since been placed on the page. Sorry about any trouble, Coasterlover1994Leave your mark! 00:16, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

T.G.I.F. Please

Explain how I might better edit the incorrect atrocities with the term "T.G.I.F." I am quite serious. I'd like to know how to best go about this correction. I've many and I do mean many years of academic research in Greek and similar mythology. I'd be delighted to include numerous journals, studies, etc ... As you so boldly accused me of vandalism and poor commenting, elucidate if you will?

The etymology of "Friday" belongs in article Friday. Please see WP:CITATION for info on how to cite sources.   — Jeff G. ツ 04:00, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I was going to say that, but Jeff G. beat me to it. Enjoy Wikipedia, Coasterlover1994Leave your mark! 04:03, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Tree (data structure) edit: Unconstructive?

I disagree with you that my edit to the article Tree (data structure) was unconstructive. I clarified the parenthetical remark, "(by convention, trees grow down, not up as they do in nature)" to "(by convention, trees grow down, not up as the plants called trees do in nature)". Perhaps you find this a little awkward (as I do) or overly precise (which I don't), but the sentence as originally written is logically weak and more awkward. Literally, it says that trees, meaning tree data structures, grow down, not up as they [tree data structures] do in nature. The logical antecedent of the pronoun "they" is tree data structures: "trees" in the same sense as it was used earlier in the sentence. In nature, tree data structures obviously do not grow at all, or even exist, since they are abstractions. Some specific identification of tree plants (the organisms with woody stems and usually green leaves that collect sunlight energy) is necessary in place of the word "they" in order to correct this literal defect. I attempted to contribute such a replacement; you rejected my contribution (but did not offer an alternative improvement).

Undoubtedly, this is a minor issue, but a high quality encyclopedia is one that pays attention to all details, not one that just avoids glaring errors and omissions. I tried to correct this glitch because it disturbed my continuity of thought and my smooth flow of reading when I came to it. In general, when I find such flaws in Wikipedia, I try to contribute quick fixes for them, as my way of contributing in return for the benefit of free use of the encyclopedia.

I have done my part in pointing out and trying to correct this error. Please either restore my edit, or make another one of your own that addresses the flaw in this sentence (or solicit someone else to do it). I would consider fully satisfactory any change that makes unambiguous, at the literal level, the fact that two completely different concepts of "tree" are being compared here. 141.158.233.114 (talk) 04:06, 22 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I see your point. What you want to contribute is necessary to the article, but it sounds awkward (which is why I removed it). Post a message on Tree (data structure)'s discussion page that says what you want to do, and see how the community thinks it should be phrased. I apologize for any trouble, Coasterlover1994Leave your mark! 04:15, 22 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have to agree with 141.158.233.114 in both points: the original sentence needs improvement, and you should not revert an edit which is not clearly vandalism without an edit comment stating your reasons. In fact, you have done that at least two other times today (I didn't check older contributions), here and here. It is very frustrating when someone else reverts one's edit without giving a reason, this might even turn away new contributors, so please do not do that if it isn't vandalism. Interesting reading on this topic is WP:Reverting and WP:Revert only when necessary.
In the "Tree (data structure)"-case you shouldn't have reverted at all, since the edit didn't make the article worse. In fact, someone might have seen the new formulation and improved it, without removing information. If you find a sentence which doesn't sound good, improve it, but don't remove it only because it doesn't sound good. – Adrianwn (talk) 06:41, 22 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Coasterlover1994, apology accepted. The talk page discussion suggestion was a good one, but no longer necessary: Adrianwn has made an alternate edit that fully satisfies my concerns, sounds not at all awkward, and is even a further improvement. I posted my comments, thanks, and a little of my relevant personal Wikipedian history (which (s)he and/or others may or not be at all interested in) on Adrianwn's talk page here
–Stephen 141.158.233.114 (talk) 10:32, 22 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
@Adrianwn- At the time, it appeared to be unnecessary. Huggle automatically provides a prewritten edit summary, and many administrators, such as Tide rolls, have edit summaries very similar, if not exactly the same, as mine. If you don't believe me, look for yourself. I have read WP:Reverting and follow it as policy. Hope this will help, Coasterlover1994Leave your mark! 22:01, 23 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Brian Williams

Regarding an edit to Brian Williams, here, you mistakenly reverted an edit. Your reversion reintroduced vandalism. It has since been corrected. I would appreciate it if you would correct your comment attributing vandalism to 67.244.89.230 67.244.89.230 (talk) 06:32, 22 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that. Looks like we may have been trying to do the same thing at the same time, or I looked at the wrong diff. Coasterlover1994Leave your mark! 21:40, 23 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Gary Ablett

You contacted me about Gary Ablett. The information which I wrote about Mr. Ablett was written by me as I have a good knowledge of Gary's time in charge of Stockport County, as misguided as it was. It was not, and never will be, intended to be offensive to Mr. Ablett, I have a trememdous respect for him and have met him on several occasions, and I can assure anyone who is concerned that anyone who ever has the fortune to cross Gary's path will tell you that he is a top, top man with a heart of gold. However, with regards the content i wrote, it cannot be verified as such as all events unfolded without being well documented in an unbiased fashion, as the case almost always is in football. However, I can assure you that it was fact, not ficiton, and I am quite confident that Mr. Ablett would confirm that all content was the truth - for example his daily struggles at work due to a lack of funding and basic equipment; I haven't obtained much of this information from any other source but directly from Gary. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SCFC1883 (talkcontribs) 00:36, 25 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
