I've read through this article a couple times and couldn't find anything about the closing ceremony. I don't know of any sources, but wasn't there a flying saucer suspended above the stadium while music from 2001 A Space Oddesy played? This took place after the formal ceremony, as a celebration. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.89.55.112 (talk) 18:01, 27 October 2010 (UTC) |

Why is this not allowed to be mentioned on the page? The guy who designed the "ship" revealed the design. It's not like this is irrelavant or something either...174.89.58.40 (talk) 19:29, 29 October 2010 (UTC) |

Chinese athletes return
"The People's Republic of China returns to the Olympics after a long absence...." Had PRC ever competed in the Olympics before 1984 (as PRC which was established in 1949, not as ROC or China)? -- Kaihsu 21:18, 2004 Aug 29 (UTC)
- I have rewritten the paragraph in the interest of accuracy and NPOV. -- Kaihsu 17:46, 2004 Sep 19 (UTC)
- PRC had not appeared in the Olympics before, so I removed 'return' etc. -- Kaihsu 11:51, 2004 Sep 20 (UTC)
this is too cool?
Anon edit - * before the American-led boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, the Eastern Bloc, including the Soviet Union, East Germany and Cuba boycotts these Olympics (the USSR announced their intention not to participate on May 8, 1984).
I've reverted this edit, as the sentence itself states May 1984 - but if anyone can shed more information on this, please do! -- Chuq 02:14, 30 Aug 2004 (UTC)
Ronald Reagan
Please stop removing the fact that Reagan was a California native. The games were held in Reagan's home state. -- SNIyer12 21:36, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
Wasn't he born in Indiana---Hailey 18:31, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- Reagan was not a California native. He was born in Illinois. However, he was a California resident for most of his life, and had served as governor before being elected President. The relevance of California being his home state to this article is questionable, but it being his "home state" in 1984 is technically true. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by NYDCSP (talk • contribs) 05:21, 29 January 2007 (UTC).
is his picture and caption really pertinent to the article? a LOT of people live in california but do they have pictures on here? no. John Williams who composed the opening song for the olympics lived there for a while. he even attended college there. why isnt his picture up? Boycott
Libya and Iran boycotted the OG due to political troubles with the USA (but they were not a part of the Soviet-Lead Boycott). -- Al1976 (talk) 18:37, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
Citing sity concerns
"... citing sity concerns ..." What does this mean (in the opening paragraph)? What is "sity" ?
Reference section and citing sources
I've added a reference section. Shouldn't more of this article be properly sourced? NYDCSP 05:18, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
Soviet-led boycott of the 1984 Summer Olympics
See Soviet-led boycott of the 1984 Summer Olympics for a new article covering the boycott, similar to American-led boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics. -- Matthead discuß! O 18:52, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
TV-Radio
Thank you. Yes, "Arbogast's work not signifigant to the history of the Olympics." How about this: "All Los Angeles radio and television stations covered the Olympics extensively throughout the event.", as if they were not going to cover the Olympics in Los Angeles?
