If you are going to put up facts on Wikipedia, then do it, but no rumours or no official confirmation has been accordning to Peter Steele's death. I just uploaded a pic that is of Peter, at the last show I attended in Dallas, TX. I don't know who is to remove the other pic of Kenny, the guitarist/vocalist of Type O, mistakenly placed where Peter's should be in the sidebox? Thanks.

Bi-polar

I think it is importaint to say that Peter Steele is bipolar, or officially: manic depressed. This is a condition that you are born with. So in the text it is stated that he is chronically depressed. But in an interview peter has stated to be bipolar. And not just depressed. he appeared to have had a psychose also at one time due to this in which he thought he was John Candy. Look up manic depression if you want to know what that is. Many artists have this condition and it is uncurable but can be treated with lithium. It might also explain why he gained weight during one time, because in those days they did not have the right medicine, and later he lost the weight again due to invention of a new medicine. The website for rock radio station KNAC.com is reporting that they have been able to confirm “according to a source from within the band” that Peter Steele has indeed passed away from heart failure at age 48. They add that the singer was apparently ill for a few days prior to his death.....jrmcneely

It seems odd that is the only page that has a retraction. Unless it is a weird scam for the new album. At the same time the forums of the official site have been erased, and all other sites Yahoo have him listed as dead. Also the crappyness of the plaque makes it look less like aplanned joke and more like a real thing. Hopfully the mystery will be solved soon.

Removed mention about him holding Paul McCartney as a hero; not relevant or encyclopedic. Also removed the following:

Dude is definitely alive. Just saw him in Ft Greene, Brooklyn (DeKalb Ave) 25 minutes ago. Steele is known for pulling these "I'm dead" stunts every few years, just for shits and giggles. Peter's not dead...at least not yet. He keeps living his life like he does he will be soon. And, If you knew him at all you would know that he would never brag about the size of his penis. On the contrary, he is a very modest man.

Former bands

You did. Repulsion was a name Type O Negative used before settling on Type O. Obviously they could not use the name as there was already a Death Metal band called Repulsion. They also used Sub Zero as a name & even were tattooed with the logo (the O with a negative symbol inside it) before finding out that there was already a hardcore band from NY with the name.[2][3]--Hndsmepete (talk) 23:14, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Steele's height?

What is this supposed to mean: "At 24' 8" (751.84 cm), Peter's low, bass heavy voice is one of the most recognizable features in Type O Negative's music."

The editors point was that someone took his height in inches and feet and translated it incorrectly in metrics, making their stated height vastly improbable. He was tall, I met him once, and he was head and shoulders taller than me and I'm 6' tall, but I doubt he was 751.84 cm or 24' 8" tall lol. Heironymous Rowe (talk) 20:27, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

Peter was likely no more than 6'7", he has stated in various interviews several different heights. He once said he was as low as 6'3", 6'6", 6'6.25" specifically, 2 meters specifically (6'6.75"), 6'7" on their website, and 6'8" in the article linked for citation, which is the first time I ever saw him refer to himself as 6'8". I have heard a few 3rd parties refer to him as 6'8" but this is likely because most people think they are 1" to 2" taller than they actually are. Playgirl inaccuracies

The article seems to contradict http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playgirl on a couple of statements:

- "Steele was Playgirl's first model to appear with an erection. Until that issue, all nude male models in PlayGirl were in a flaccid state."
According to the Playgirl article, there was an erection already in 1980.

- "After finding out via bandmate Kenny Hickey's contacts that only 23% of the magazine subscribers were female"
There is no citation of this, and the "23%" seems to contradict the numbers suggested in the Playgirl article.

Death

I think it's highly inappropriate that his epitaph should contain a lot of "deathbed conversion" nonsense (20% of the main article). Steele was always an atheist and very clear and concise about it. Thet0rp (talk) 00:01, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

Not sure what the phrase "though Adolf was a Catholic himself" has to do with Peter Steele's statements about the afterlife, and providing half a dozen links to a site attempting to connect Hitler with the Catholic Church seems inappropriate for the scope of this article. I would like to mention though that the band's website still shows the dates for their October tour, and Pete's biography on the site doesn't say that he is dead. Lead paragraph too short?

On April 16 [[4]], User Thumperward (talk|contribs) added the {tooshort} template in a minor edit indicating that the lead paragraph does not adequately summarize the contents of the article. I've reviewed the lead paragraph and the article, and I disagree and have removed the template. The lead paragraph is well-referenced and I feel it summarizes the major points of the article. I would be willing to help expand the lead paragraph, but would like to request input and specific examples from any users who feel the lead inadequately summarizes the article and can cite an example or a guideline this article doesn't follow. Clearly, it doesn't include all of the points made in the article, but it is an overview of the subject's history and quickly establishes his identity and notability. Other than perhaps a count of the number of albums between (year range) that could be added, I'm not sure which topics specifically are not adequately summarized. Anything else strike you as particularly important that it deserves to be in the lead paragraph? Anyone? I do think it complies with the guideline WP:Lead_section#Length: one or two paragraphs for an article up to 15,000 characters. If the article were longer, I might agree, but this article is on the order of 4000 characters. One paragraph should be sufficient. It's not designed to include the history of Type O Negative.
