Ravi Teja (Telugu: రవి తేజ; born 26 January 1968[1] as Bhupatiraju Ravi Shankar Raju) is an Indian film actor in Telugu Cinema. He won the Best Actor Nandi Award for the film Neninthe in 2008.

Personal life

Ravi Teja alias Bhupatiraju Ravishankar Raju was born in Jaggampeta, East Godavari District in Andhra Pradesh. He is the eldest of three sons to his father, Bhupatiraju Rajgopal Raju, a pharmacist, and mother Rajyalaxmi Bhupatiraju, a home maker. Both his brothers are now actors as well. Before starting his career in Tollywood, Ravi Teja spent most of his childhood in Jaipur, Delhi, Mumbai and Bhopal. Later on he moved to Vijayawada along with his family and joined Siddhartha Degree College to pursue his Bachelors in Arts. Half way through his graduation, he left for Chennai on 2 October 1988, to begin a career in film.

Early career

His interest in films brought him into the film industry. In the beginning, he worked in both television and films as an assistant director but continued in feature films after that. He worked in several Bollywood as well as Tollywood projects including Prathibandh, Aaj Ka Goondaraj, and Criminal (1994 film). He managed to do a few small time roles in Bollywood as well. He acted as one of Chiranjeevi's friends in Aaj Ka Goondaraj. Ravi Teja joined Krishna Vamsi as an assistant director for Ninne Pelladatha and played a small role in the film. Krishna Vamsi cast him as one of the lead actors in Sindhuram. After that he played second lead in films like Pattukondi Chuddam, Premaku Velayara, and Padutha Thiyaga. His first film as a lead actor was Neekosam (1999), directed by Srinu Vaitla.

Career success

Raviteja got a break as a hero with Itlu Sravani Subramanyam and then next with Idiot directed by Puri Jagannath in 2001. Both films were released in 2001. Vamsi directed Ravi Teja in Avunu Validharu Ishtapaddaru. His big break came with Idiot directed by Puri Jagannath. They decided to remake the film in Hindi with Ravi Teja.

In 2003, Ravi Teja played the lead in Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi alongside Asin.

Raviteja started to give hit after hit for a while but films like Ee Abbayee Chala Manchodu, Anveshana and Oka Raju Oka Rani bombed at the box office. On his success run, Raviteja delivered hits like Veede, Venky, Bhadra and Bhageeradha had an average fare. On the way, Chanti the Hero and Naa Autograph flopped. Next came Shock which had good openings but eventually didn't do so good. Raviteja finally got his blockbuster film with clutch director S. S. Rajamouli with Vikramarkudu, the masala entertainer which became a super hit.

Later in 2006, Raviteja's Khatarnak, released around Christmas time, flopped miserably.

2007 came around and Raviteja got his hit streak back with Srinu Vaitlay's Dubai Seenu. Later, another blockbuster Raviteja came with was Krisna-the power of Indrakeeladri. It was a super hit directed by V. V. Vinayak.

In 2008, Raviteja opened up with Krishna, and then Baladur which flopped again miserably and ended the year with Puri Jagannath's Nenithe. The film was not so good and two flops for Raviteja in a row.

2009 came around and Raviteja came with Kick directed by Surender Reddy. The film was one of the biggest hits of the year behind Magadheera, and was a blockbuster runaway hit with its collections amazing. Later that summer, he delivered Anjaneyulu, which was an average fare.

In 2010, he starred in the box office failure Sambo Shiva Shambo with Allari Naresh and Siva Balaji. However, Don Seenu, directed by newcomer Gopichand Malineni and co-starring Shriya Saran, Srihari, and Sayaji Shinde, had the biggest openings in Raviteja's career.

Raviteja's next film is Mirapakai, a comedy taglined Veedu Chala Hot Guru, is scheduled to be released in January 2011.
