7aam Arivu (Tamil: ஏழாம் அறிவு, English: The Seventh Sense) is an upcoming Tamil science fiction thriller film written and directed by A. R. Murugadoss. Starring Suriya, in triple roles, and Shruthi Haasan, the film, being produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin, began production in May 2010. The story is said to revolve around a "super machine", which is brought to India.[1] The film will be dubbed into Hindi and Telugu as well.[2]

Cast

Production

Kamal Haasan was initially considered for the lead role but he rejected it and asked his daughter Shruti Haasan to be part of the project.[3] Suriya reportedly to play a circus artist,[4] as well was a Buddhist monk set in China in the 14th century and a scientist.[5] Vietnamese actor Johnny Tri Nguyen was signed to play the antagonist,[1] while Kannada actor Avinash was chosen for the role of Suriya's father in the film.[6] 1000 dancers were alloted for a song.[7] A stunt sequence was shot at Binny Mills at Perambur, Chennai where Suriya went through an ankle injury due to which he was forced to take a 3 day rest.[8] The first schedule of the film was completed in China. The movie was supposed to be a period film set in the BC.[9] A shot was taken in Ampa Skywalk mall in Chennai[10] and another one in Besant Nagar where Suriya was picctured riding an elephant.[11]

There were reports that the film drew inspirations from Christopher Nolan's Inception. However, the director reasoned that the shooting of the film had begun much before Inception so there was no chance of the scripts having a similar storyline. Others claimed that the film was a remake of the Bollywood flick Chandni Chowk to China as both were supposed to be set in China and some stated that the film's concept was similar to that of the Hollywood film Perfume. However, it was all dismissed by the director who stated that the script was original.[12]

Soundtrack

Untitled

This is the second collaboration between Suriya, Harris Jayaraj and Murugadoss after the success of Ghajini. The soundtrack, composed by Harris Jayaraj, consists of six songs including a Chinese track, sung by Chinese singer Hau. A. R. Rahman was supposed to attend the audio launch. [13] Lyrics were penned by Madhan Karky. The audio right of the album were bagged by Sony Music reportedly for a whopping amount.[14] The composition of the soundtrack took place in Singapore.[15] The music was supposed to release by early March 2011 but postponed.
