The Best of Kylie Minogue is a greatest hits album by Australian recording artist Kylie Minogue on EMI, her parent label since 2000. The album was released worldwide on 4 June 2012, in Japan on 13 June and is due for release in the United States on 19 June.[1] Its release commemorates Minogue's 25th anniversary of being in the music industry and it is also part of her K25 celebrations. The release follows the previous major compilation Greatest Hits (1992), Hits+ (2000) and Ultimate Kylie (2004). A deluxe edition was released with the compilation, featuring a bonus DVD, which features videos of the songs listed.

The album received praise from most music critics, who noted it being on of Minogue's best compilation featuring her best hits. Upon its release, the album was generally successful, peaking in the top forty in countries including Scotland, Ireland, Czech Republic, Japan, Spain and the United Kingdom.

Background

According to sources and EMI, the reason for the narrow choices off the songs on the compilation was "[...] chosen by the fans through extensive market research conducted by EMI late last year.”[2]

"The Best of Kylie Minogue" was critically praised from most contemporary music critics. Barry Walters from Rolling Stones gave the compilation four out of five stars and said: "With electronic grooves dominating Top 40 radio, Australia's Kylie Minogue and her euphoric dance pop are more relevant than ever. This 21-track set plays like a crash course in the history of international club style [...]"[4]

Tim Sendra from Allmusic gave it a near-universal acclaim review, giving it four-and-a-half stars out of five stars saying: "This 2012 best-of collection gathers 21 hits that span Kylie's impressive and varied pop music career" and finished saying: "This collection is proof that Kylie is arguably the best pop singer of her era and more importantly, is fun from beginning to end."[5] OK! Magazine had called the compilation "Amazing!" and said "Kylie collects together some of her finest moments."[6] Robbie Daw from Idolator gave it a mixed review. He felt that the expectations of new releases on the album had faulted saying "[...] you’d expect there to be a hits package of some sort in the pipeline. But while we were hoping for something more along the lines of a box set compiling her complete singles discography [sigh], we’ll have to settle for the 21-track [The Best Of Kylie Minogue]."[7]
