Neutrality

This article reads like an advertisement for Mr. Rose's potential professional career. It does not appear, by any stretch of the imagination, to meet WP:POV. --InDeBiz1 (talk) 00:35, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

my edits

He's not a "professional", nor a player for the Bulls, until he signs a contract and actually joins the team. Also, the odds for the bulls to get the #1 draft pick is irrelevant here.

"During his senior year he led Simeon past then #1 ranked Oak Hill Academy, 78-75 on national TV. That loss turned out to be Oak Hill's sole loss on the season. In that game, Rose had 73 points, 15 assists, and 22 rebounds." It is impossible for Rose to have 73 of the 78 points and 15 assists in the same game. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.176.190.41 (talk) 09:50, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Measurement Edits

The official measurements are listed at draftexpress.com. His Height (with shoes) is officially 6.25 and not 6'3. His weight officially came in at 196 and not 191. I don't know if Wikipedia likes to round things up but those are his more accurate official measurements. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aka ShoNuff (talkcontribs) 19:35, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think 6.25 is 6'3". He's 6 feet and quarter. 25% of a foot is 3 inches. What's the problem? quixoto (talk) 05:02, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Breaking "freshman" record held by Penny Hardaway

Rose did not break a "freshman" record held by Penny Hardaway because Penny Hardaway never played as a freshman. He had to sit out his freshman year as a Prop 48 player. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.237.156.252 (talk) 06:32, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Date of Playoff Game Debut for Derrick Rose

Is April 18, 2009 not April 19. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ldyrattler (talkcontribs) 19:51, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Grading controversy

When will the current national news of his fraudulent grade controversy be added? it's only in every newspaper but of course not here

As far as I know, the investigation is still underway. We might as well wait a little while longer until we can tell as much of the story as we can. Zagalejo^^^ 18:46, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, um, sorry but that is not the standard. There are literally thousands of investigations underway for all types of people on wikipedia, and they are all listed. They are listed to reflect the current state of the investigation, wherever it may be. to not even mention the investigation is not right. investigations do not have to be concluded in order for them to be mentioned on wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.176.14.119 (talk) 09:42, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, what do you propose adding to the article? Zagalejo^^^ 19:01, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Quick College Edit

"Strong efforts were made by the Indiana University and in-state University of Illinois to sign Rose to their own programs but Rose decided elsewere, Memphis.[28]"

Changed to ---> "by Indiana University"

The 'the' is not needed if the sentence were the "were made by the University of Indiana" it would be appropriate.

Cubswin002 (talk) 06:01, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. Thanks for catching that. Zagalejo^^^ 18:21, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

{{editsemiprotected}}

"Chicago's late push contributed to Rose winning Rookie of the Year, joining Michael Jordan (1985) and Elton Brand (2000) as the Bulls to do so." probably should be as the only Bulls to do so under Rookie of the Year.

First time reading through the article there was also another one but I can't seem to find it now.

Fixed, thanks. Zagalejo^^^ 05:34, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
disabled the template, the edit appears to have been done. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 06:15, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Info page

Can someone fix it so his info page shows up again? Ice (talk) 23:17, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, I can't figure out why it's not working. You can try asking User:LOL. He's knowledgeable about infoboxes. Zagalejo^^^ 01:16, 6 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A Bull Forever...

The introductory sentence: "Derrick Martell Rose (born October 4, 1988) is an American professional basketball player who is currently playing for the Chicago Bulls of the NBA" is presumptuous and pessimistic... he may very well, and hopefully, be a Bull forever... a better edit: Derrick Martell Rose (born October 4, 1988) is an American professional basketball player for the Chicago Bulls of the NBA

And be ready to add: MVP of 2010-2011 season...  :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.197.235.115 (talk) 03:47, 19 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that the opening sentence was rather wordy. Changed to: "Derrick Martell Rose is an American professional basketball player for the Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association (NBA)." Dabomb87 (talk) 03:52, 19 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

MVP

Derrick Rose was just named nba mvp. this should be added to his wikipedia biography as soon as possible —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.57.23.234 (talk) 22:30, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That has been done. Dabomb87 (talk) 22:40, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Career High 44 Points

On May 6th, 2011, Derrick Rose scored a career high 44 points against the Atlanta Hawks. Is this important enough to add? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jdeckert123 (talkcontribs) 07:36, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it probably should be added eventually. Zagalejo^^^ 03:35, 11 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Lead Rewrite

The lead to this article is lacking. It reads a being far too specific, e.g. that Rose learned basketball from his brothers. I think that the second and third paragraphs would be better suited to the body Ph8l (talk) 12:29, 11 May 2011 (UTC)ph8l[reply]

Rose's relationship with his brothers (and mother) is a pretty important part of his life story, I think. It's OK for the lead to repeat info found in the body. Zagalejo^^^ 02:13, 12 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request from 12.20.152.195, 9 June 2011

If it is to your convenience, Derrick Rose has been nicknamed the "Windy City Assassin" by former Chicago Bulls player and current WGN Sports announcer Stacey King. I, and possibly most of Chicago, would appreciate it if you could make that an addition to the Derrick Rose wiki article. I felt it would only be fair since Wade, Lebron, Pierce, Shaquille all have their nicknames up. If you need a source, I have one to provide for you.

[1]

Hope it is of no problem to you and we would really appreciate it if you could make this happen. Have a great day and God Bless.

12.20.152.195 (talk) 23:54, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Given that the site doesn't even have an about page, and doesn't appear to be a professional news organization, I'm afraid that that doesn't count as a reliable source. What we need is the original source (when/where King used the term). However, just that won't really be enough--we can't call it a real nickname unless it is widely used--just because one sportscaster used one term one time does not make it a full nickname. Triple Double

surely that one triple double shouldnt be on the page, whats the point of it? it's like saying 'one day he had a blue milkshake' or 'he played golf once'. not notable. maybe once somebody lists all 120+ of jason kidd's triple doubles then they can be added to other players pages, but having it randomly slapped in there is pretty stupid 124.168.104.9 (talk) 13:10, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, his first triple double is at least somewhat notable. You do bring up an interesting point, though. When a player has spent his entire pro career in the Wikipedia era, there's a tendency for people to just keep adding stuff without considering the long-term significance. At the rate we're going, the article is going to be a bit of a mess. It's a lot easier to write a good sports article when the player has already retired or is close to retiring, because then you have a better perspective on what's important. Zagalejo^^^ 03:56, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please add Derrick's game winner against the New Orleans hornets to his list of game winners. Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.18.204.224 (talk) 14:39, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think that whole section needs to be rethought. It's not clear how we're defining "game-winning shot". Zagalejo^^^ 20:36, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Any basket where the team gains the lead in crunched time and doesn't lose it. The previous list was perfect. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.18.204.224 (talk) 10:57, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

But how do you define "crunch time"? Zagalejo^^^ 19:11, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Under best free throw percentage for a game, it lists 12-14 against the OKC Thunder. This should be updated, as last night, March 7th, he went 14-14 at the line against the Milwaukee Bucks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.124.124.219 (talk) 03:28, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
