Ajinkya Madhukar Rahane (born 5 June 1988, in a Maratha family, Maharashtra) is an Indian international cricketer.[1][2][3] He is a right-handed batsman, who represents India in international competitions. Rahane represents Mumbai in domestic competitions and Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League.

Playing career

List A

Rahane made his List A debut for Mumbai against Delhi in the Ranji One-day Trophy in March 2007, at Delhi.[4] Scoring 61 runs on debut he was instrumental in 171 runs match winning opening partnership with former Indian Opener and Mumbai Senior Pro, Wasim Jaffer. This was before his Ranji Trophy Debut. He progressed through the Mumbai ranks and has also been a part of the Indian U-19 team and the India 'A'. Ajinkya Rahane has also turned out for India Blue & Green in the Challenger Series, and West Zone in the Duleep Trophy.

First-class

Rahane made his First-class debut for Mumbai against Karachi Urban in Mohammed Nissar Trophy in September 2007, at Karachi, When Mumbai team most of the first choice players were unavailable for match for various reasons. He scored century on debut 143 (207) against the Karachi urban attack comprising Anwar Ali.[5] He made his Ranji Trophy debut for his First-class side Mumbai in the 2007/2008 season. His wonderful Ranji season followed an impressive showing in the 2007-08 Duleep Trophy, where he scored 172 against an England Lions attack comprising Graham Onions, Monty Panesar, Steve Kirby and Liam Plunkett He continued to impress in domestic cricket, scoring three hundreds each in the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons of the Ranji Trophy. He is one of the only 11 players to have scored more than 1000 runs in a single Ranji Trophy season. As of 27 December 2010, he averaged a high 69.01 in first-class cricket, which currently places him 4th on the list of all-time highest first class batting averages.[6] Two centuries in the Emerging Players Tournament in Australia brought him a place in the India ODI squad for the tour of England in 2011.[7]

International career

Test Matches

He was a part of the Indian Test squad that toured Australia in 2011-12, however he did not get a Test cap. Due to star studded batting line-up of Indian Test Team comprising Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, V.V.S.Laxman, Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir at top, he has unable to find the spot in Indian Test Team despite of several good performance in domestic cricket as well as India-A tours. He was a part of the test squad of England tour of India 2012-13. He is on selectors radar and will likely be the next man in line if there is any causality in Batting order or once the great man Sachin Tendulkar retires.

Indian Premier League (IPL)

Rahane rose to prominence in the IPL 2012 season for the Rajasthan Royals. He hit a match-winning 98 in his first game of IPL 2012 against Kings XI Punjab[29] and followed that up with an unbeaten 103 against Royal Challengers Bangalore[30] with 6 boundaries in one over against Sreenath Aravind - his first IPL hundred. His 84 off 63 balls against Delhi Daredevils[31] was in vain though, as they lost by just one run.
