Copyright violation

The last changes by an anonymous user seem to be copied from official promotional websites of Leslie Howard and Hyperion Records. Disagree (2nd paragraph). The article does mention quite a lot of sources, albeit not in the preferred WP formats. So, the above is not true, it only points to evident lazyness to seek that "evidence" (as if Wikipedia was a Law Court where everything needs to be proven and otherwise is deemed as false). --AVM (talk) 01:29, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Other pianists who attempted the complete piano works of Liszt

To my knowledge, only one other person has attempted this massive feat, the French pianiste France Clidat. She still turns up on Google with misleading claims to have completed the project – [1]. However, she only completed 26 CDs (actually, this was done back in the LP days of the late 60s or early 70s, before CDs were invented – I still have 6 boxed sets of LPs of Clidat’s performances that I bought in the early 70s), as against Howard’s 90-odd, and Howard certainly made many premiere recordings of various works.

However Clidat has a fantastic technique and I still get great enjoyment from her playing, so although she’s on the jury of the International Franz Liszt Piano Competition [2], I’m surprised she’s not better known to the public at large - as judged by not only Wikipedia having no article on her, but also her name appearing only twice in Wikipedia at all – [3]. I’ll add her to my list of articles to create. Is there anyone else who has ever set out on a complete survey of Liszt’s piano works? -- JackofOz (talk) 23:59, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

I suspect that besides Clidat, the Chilean pianist Claudio Arrau may also have accomplished a similar feat. It would be very interesting to make a one-by-one comparison of recordings by these three masters, though the amount of work involved is huge. The Hyperion catalogue lists 64 Liszt CDs by Howard (notice the curious wording?) Ref. -> Hyperion Records - Leslie Howard (piano). I have almost given up trying to count Arrau's records, confronting the same problem as you mention with Clidat (namely, many 33rpm LP's plus numerous newer CDs) Ref. -> 'ArrauHouse' - Complete Discography - Liszt, Ferenc, the Liszt part, which is only a fraction of Arrau's recorded repertoire. The three (Clidat, Howard, Arrau) are giants, no doubt! But who is really the winner is far from clear, despite the opinion of the folks at Guinness (remember the firm used to be British). No. I don't think that your reference is a good reference: the bottom of that page says "Source: All Music Guide Website (Author: Erik Eriksson); Wikipedia Website". Please feel free to restitute the paragraphs with in-line citations to primary sources. There. It couldn't fail. Someone attached a tag thus:

The previous sentence made it clear that Howard was only two years old at that time. So, just what kind of citation do you need? A reference to the anatomy of toddlers perhaps, including limb and finger measurements? --AVM (talk) 01:29, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Wigmore Hall recitals

I have a little problem with:

• By excluding Liszt's arrangements (fantasies and transcriptions) of other composers' works, and by selecting only the final versions of Liszt's original works for solo piano, Howard was able to represent Liszt's entire solo piano oeuvre in these mammoth recital programmes.

If he excluded the entire sub-genre of fantasies and transcriptions, then can he really be said to have "represented the entire solo piano oeuvre" of Liszt? The fantasies and transcriptions accounted for a very sizable chunk of the 98 CDs he later recorded – probably a number of dozen of them. -- JackofOz (talk) 07:06, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
