Fethullah Gülen

Hello, there seems to be an edit war going on at Fethullah Gülen. Would someone people familiar with Turkey and/or Islam like to pop in to look? -- JamesTeterenko 04:40, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fethullah Gülen is a far-right Islamic figure and nothing to do with Turkey because there is no role of Islam in the Turkish Parliment and in also other governmental issues. Religion and State are divided from eachother. Sadly, I can't say you good things about Fethullah Gülen. Deliogul 21:22, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He is not a Turkish citizen. He stays/lives in U.S.A now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.185.13.153 (talk) 10:05, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Turkish provinces

Hello, can someone copy the Turkish Wikipedia template for provinces:

http://tr.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C5%9Eablon_tart%C4%B1%C5%9Fma:Tr%C4%B0l

into the English Wikipedia; and also the 2 associated templates: Template:Tril haritası & Template:Trili konumu

And copy the maps of the Turkish provinces into the English Wikipedia, so that I (and others) can update the articles on these provinces and make them look better (closer to the Turkish Wikipedia originals). Carlossuarez46 18:33, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism

Turkish people photograph

The Turkish people picture Image:Turkish people.JPG has been tagged by someone for possible deletion. It would be a shame if it happens just, because the original author did not provide sources of these pictures.--Riurik(discuss) 14:40, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mrb,

Bu portala nasıl üye olabilirim?

--Teşekkürler, iyi çalışmalar. XD kızılsungur 06:41, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nereye gidiyorsunuz?

Where is everyone at here? I hope nobody minds, but this portal seems to have been neglected over the last month and a half, and I updated everything. There is so much out there with regards to Turkey that featuring different things gives it a new life- look beyond the major cities to those places that really make Turkey special! Monsieurdl 13:23, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome to edit the portal :) I've been virtually BEGGING the Turkish editors to help, but nobody was willing, and I'm not able to update it as often as I want to.. --Teemeah Gül Bahçesi 07:08, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well it may be difficult since so many other articles need work, and it is time consuming for sure. It really needed a face-lift. Thanks! Monsieurdl 11:59, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Where is Turkey?

Hi fellow editors, Can someone answer the question "where is Turkey?" Is it in Europe, Asia, or in the geopolitical entity named "the Middle East"? I was discussing it on Category_talk:Diplomatic_missions_by_country, as are many Turkish wikipedians, since in every Diplomatical Mission page without exception, Turkey is classified as "Middle Eastern". Each time any Turkish wikipedian reverted that page to "Turkey = Europe" someone frantically would put Turkey back to "Middle East" we discussed it with User:Kransky, the very creator of these page, who more or less obviously hates Turkey and does not want to give away his or her nationality, who flagged me for Vandalism and "Not assuming good faith" when I was only trying to protect what I believed was right and discussed politely.= Dear Turkish Wikipedians, I beg you to give me a hand on this very problem. Cheers (and desesperately) --Eae1983 (talk) 17:10, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Difficult question. geographically it is in Asia, as most of the land territory is there. In other aspects it varies grately. She is considered European in football championships, and part of MEA (middle east and africa) in trade and business. True, that if you think in political isntitutions, culture and daily life in Turkey, it is more Europe than Middle East.--> it is a republic, where religion and government is stritcly separated unlike in middle eastern countries, religion is not that stronghold in Turkey as in mea countries, it has various cultural and economical ties with europe. So it depends on the topic, where you put it. I would definitely put it in asia, if it is a geographical topic and to europe in everything else. --Teemeah Gül Bahçesi 19:47, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Anatolian leopard

Hi, someone pasted this image in Anatolian leopard: 200px|thumb|Anatolian leopard in newspaper Does it show an leopard from Anatolia? Unfortunately I can not read the text. Thank you.--Altaileopard (talk) 16:34, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, the title says "panther which can tear a human to pieces". This is very old article from a reliable newspaper. I cannot read the article because of low resolution but I have seen this article on other web pages, this is a true story.--Egek (talk) 21:32, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Watch out for users making Propaganda against Turks

Hi guys! Of course you can't do anything against trolls on Wikipedia as everyone can write what he wants to do. But my suggestion would be that some of you guys once in a while have a look at articles which are risked to be attacked by some guys trying to get their own propaganda and myths into the Wikipedia articles. Especially when it comes to articles about Turkish/Turkic politics, culture and history.

Some of them try to make poltical issues of some who aren't one and others try to make Turkish culture and history (empires, origins and so on) their own. If you got the time just look sometimes through some of this articles as a few of them have got wrong information and aren't changed since then because nobody looks after them. --P223 (talk) 08:25, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

—Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.100.42.44 (talk) 15:48, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Anti -Turkish Articles in Wikipedia

Here is a list of articles that have been altered to give misleading view of Turks or to discredit Turks or to distort history. Please add links to articles as you find them and give reasons for why the article is wrong:

  • Pan_turkism. This article focuses on accusing Turks of various genocides. Very little on the positive aspects of Pan-Turkism.
  • Great_Seljuq_Empire. This article gives the impression that the Seljuk Turks were actually Persian. A very poor quality article that mis-informs the reader.

I don't want to start a revert war here, but I think that this portal should list Portal:Kurdistan in the related portals section. The biggest part of Kurdistan is located in Turkey. And even more, Demographics of Turkey says that at least 17% of the Turkish population is Kurdish. I'd say that makes a Kurdish Portal related to Turkey. Especially these days when the Kurdish issue active in Turkish politics. ~ Zirguezi 12:36, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why should this portal include such an unrelated portal? You're talking about an imaginary land called kurdistan and claiming that biggest part of it is located in Turkey. Official and recognised description is not like that. We can't allow you to promote your unsourced, unverifiable WP:OR claims. It is clear that you have WP:COI. So, be a nice wikipedia user and stay clean of throwing childish threats like starting revert war or something here.78.181.153.195 (talk) 16:39, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I never said Kurdistan was a country. It's a geographical region. The biggest part of which is located in Turkey. Which makes it related to Turkey. These are no claims but facts all of which are sourced an verified in the Kurdistan article. So I don't see how WP:OR matters here. I also don't see how my edits are not compatible with WP:COI as they ARE neutral and sourced. ~ Zirguezi 16:29, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Alternative names of provinces

Some users put the alternative names of city to Article that is related with province. I thought that Kurdish translation of "X ili" sould be "parêzgeha X" or "wîlayeta X". But as long as I understand "parêzgeh" is used in Northern Iraq not in Turkey. It's difficult to find reliable sources for "X ili" 's alternative names. I think and I've said that if we can find reliable sources (for me TRT 6, Roj TV are OK), we can put alternative names. Otherwise we must not add false information to articles. Because the Van Province (Van ili ) is not equal to the city of Van. I think we must not accept such incorrect information. Some users accused us with the term of "Turkish nationalist" (as you know, I'm not Turkish nationalist). This is not the matter of ethnic nationalisms but of common sence, and it won't be changed with explanations of users of Wikipedia. Thank you. Takabeg (talk) 15:55, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have written the article List of Ancient Greek temples. It is illustrated with photos of the temples listed, with the exception of the Temple of Dionysus at Teos. If someone has, or could take a photo of this site, it would be much appreciated. The exact location can be found by using the coordinates given in the article, as the temple is just one of several Classical ruins in that area. The photo needs to be of horizontal format to fit into the article, as every other photo is horizontal. If you upload such a picture, please leave a message on my talk page. Hittites

I'm assuming the Hittites are a significant group associated with the history of Turkey. Anyone agree/disagree? Also History of Anatolia appears to have Republic of Turkey at the bottom (in pink). Merger needed?
