"I Was a Lover, A Leader of Men" is a song by the Bee Gees released to tie in with their debut album The Bee Gees Sing and Play 14 Barry Gibb Songs released in November 1965 only in Australia.[1] The single was credited to "Barry Gibb and the Bee Gees".[2] It features the guitar by Barry Gibb and Maurice Gibb. And the song was strong rhythm guitar like the group's previous single "Wine and Women" and its B-side "Follow the Wind".[3] The song sounded like a song from the Hollies.Cite error: A <ref> tag is missing the closing </ref> (see the help page).

Release

Although the single was a flop, the song earned Barry the talent award for the best Australian composition from Adelaide radio station 5KA.[4] As Barry explained:

"That was a very big moment for us. That told us we were going somewhere. We knew not where, but we were going somewhere".[5]
