Buffy Jo Christina Wicks (born August 10, 1977) is the executive director of the Priorities USA Action pro-Hillary Clinton super PAC and a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress.^[1] She is also vice-president for political affairs at AKPD Message and Media. She is the former deputy director of the White House Office of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs in the Obama Administration. ^[2] She is also known by the sobriquet given to her by Walmart executives, “Buffy the Walmart slayer,” for her role as the former political director of the 2006 Wake Up Wal-Mart campaign to protest the minimum wages and benefits paid to Walmart employees.^[3]^[4]^[5]

Background

Born in Foresthill, California in 1977, Wicks graduated from Placer High School in 1994. She graduated from the University of Washington in 1998 with a B.A. degree in political science and history.^[6]^[7]

In 2000, she began a two-year program for an International Master in Peace, Conflict, and Development Studies (PEACE Master) of the Universitat Jaume I (UJI), Castellón, Spain, under the UNESCO Chair of Philosophy for Peace, but left in 2001 and did not complete the degree.^[8]

Co-founded Hoi-Polloi, "a people’s organization created by a small group of conscientious thinkers striving for world peace."; Campaign manager on Jay Fetcher's 2004 state Senate campaign in Colorado; Des Moines organizer on Howard Dean's Iowa caucus campaign.^[7]
