Kaththi (English: Knife) is an upcoming Tamil action thriller film written and directed by AR Murugadoss.[1] The film features Vijay in a dual role[2] with Samantha [3] as the female lead,while Neil Nitin Mukesh debuts in Tamil cinema as the lead antagonist character.[4][5] Principal photography for the film commenced on 3 February 2014.[6]

Production
Development
After the stupendous success of Thuppakki, it was reported that Murugadoss and Vijay would work together again.[9][10]Ayngaran International and Lyca Productions are the producers of the film.[11] Murugadoss replaced his usual music director Harris Jayaraj with Anirudh Ravichander and signed George C. Williams as the cinematographer, who had filmed Raja Rani which was produced by Murugadoss himself.[12] Art director Ilayaraja, who had won the National Award for best art work in Vishwaroopam, is creating the sets for the film.[13]
Casting
Samantha Ruth Prabhu was confirmed to pair opposite Vijay.[14]. Bengali actor Tota Roy Chowdhury was signed for an antagonistic role, an international gangster named Vivek Banerjee.[15] In March, Murugadoss stated that Bollywood actor Neil Nitin Mukesh would be part of his project, making his Tamil film debut. He also unveiled that Vijay would be seen in a double role.[16] Actor Satish was chosen to play a supporting role in the film.[17]
Filming
The film was launched in Kolkata on February 3, 2014 by its producers Ayngaran International with a little pooja ceremony in front of the Kalighat Kali Temple, after which the principal photography began.[18] Earlier Schedules were made on Kolkata and Hyderabad.[19][20]
The First Look Motion Poster Teaser of Kaththi was released on June 22, 2014 on Vijay's birthday and it was a grand success.[21]
Release
The satellite rights of the film were bagged by Sun TV.[22]
Soundtrack
The Soundtrack album of Kaththi consists of six tracks, composed by Anirudh Ravichander.[23]
