Lefkoniko is the location of Lefkoniko airport with a 3400m runway, the longest on the island, used mostly for military purposes. It is under the de facto control of Northern Cyprus. Lefkoniko is the birthplace of Cypriot national poet Vasilis Michaelides and is known for its lace.
