Yes, she was a Christian by religion, and her name sounds like a Sikh. Her ancestors were Sikhs. --Bhadani 14:39, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please see these words of Khushwant Singh: Two retired diplomats on my list are Ranbir Singh and Jagat Mehta. Ranbir is Rajkumari Amrit Kaur’s nephew, a Christian conscious of being a descendant of Sardar Jassa Singh Ahluwalia. [1]. This is just by way of one of many such references.

She was the daughter of the last Maharaja of Kapurthala, who married a Bengali who happened to be Christian, and converted to Protestantism to do so. His daughters, including Rajkumari Amrit Kaur, maintained their ethnic names but were Christian by faith. This is not uncommon among Protestants in North India and Bengal. Consider Prannoy Roy.
