Pakuba Airport (IATA: PAF, ICAO: HUPA) is an airport serving Pakuba,[1] in Nwoya District in northern Uganda. Pakuba Airport has one runway measuring 1,685 metres (5,528 ft) in length.[1] It is a small civilian airport that serves Murchison Falls National Park.
The airport is operated by the Civil Aviation Authority of Uganda. It is one of the five upcountry airports that are authorized to handle cross-border air traffic from member countries of the East African Community, as part of efforts to promote tourism within Eastern Africa.[2]
Location
Pakuba Airport is approximately 275 kilometres (171 mi), by air, north-west of Entebbe International Airport, the country’s largest civilian and military airport. This location is approximately 15 kilometres (9 mi) north-west of Bugungu Airstrip.
Cartographic Misrepresentation
It should be noted that on a considerable number of cartographic material (including Wikimapia, Google Maps, and others) Pakuba Airport is falsely denoted as "Kabalega Falls Airport". (With "Kabalega Falls" being a now disused designation for "Murchison Falls".) There are, in fact, two distinct airfields within the boundaries of Murchison Falls National Park: The one on the northern bank of the River Nile is called Pakuba Airfield.[3] The second one, located approximately 15km to the south-east on the southern banks of the Nile, is named Bugungu Airstrip. [4] Hence, there is currently no aeronautical facility by the name "Kabalega Falls Airport" and the aforementioned geographical references should be updated accordingly.
