This part of the first paragraph: "and in 1980 at the age of 13 started the Weather Channel." directly contradicts The_Weather_Channel#History: "The Weather Channel was founded in 1981 by John Coleman and Frank Batten. It was launched on May 2, 1982.". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.61.39.98 (talk) 05:46, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Theater for the New City is not in Greenwich Village, it is in the East Village. Not only does it contradict the page on the Theater for the New City, I grew up 2 blocks from said theater and have been to many a play there, in the East Village. Italian-American mother

His mother is if not of full Italian ancestry is at least half. Makes me wonder if you guys are a little biased when you did this article on Wikipedia. What's wrong with his Italian heritage?! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.156.65.225 (talk) 11:48, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Vin Diesel's The Ropes

This show (The ropes - 2012) produced by Vin Diesel, which I watched on Netflix, is not listed anywhere. It is a 6 episode series for which there is next to none information about it out there. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.160.133.29 (talk) 15:54, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

What about his next starring role re-inventing Telly Savalas' iconic role as Kojak?58.169.180.35 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 01:27, 28 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mention his short film "Multi-Facial" in the intro

"He received a strong response, and the film was accepted for the 1995 Cannes Film Festival. In 1997, Spielberg saw Multi-Facial and wrote a role into Saving Private Ryan specifically for Diesel as a result, giving him his first major film role."

This pretty much started his career. Deserves a mention in the intro. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.4.67.101 (talk) 04:57, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Confirmation of last statement.

There should be a citation for the claim that Vin has two other children as that could be made up and is not public knowledge either. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 23.28.222.6 (talk) 13:45, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted statement about other children w/ girlfriend

No citation was given and I cannot find any evidence of this "fact".

Vin Diesel was a fragrance model in NYC for several years in early '90s

From 1990-1993 Vin Diesel was a fragrance model at Saks Fifth Ave, Bloomingdale's and other department stores for companies like Armani and Escada. He was a bouncer at night and model by day. I know because I worked with him. There were others I worked with at the time as well with Wiki articles I plan to update, such as French actor Franck Neel and NYC investor Michael Benjamin. But I can't update this article because it's locked. Gperez1970 (talk) 19:48, 7 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is any of that really relevant to an encyclopaedia? Smurfmeister (talk) 22:07, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's relevant for the Early Life and 1990s Career sections. However, such information needs to be sourced. Editors cannot put in their own personal experiences. Primogen (talk) 01:39, 7 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Spraying perfume is hardly a high point in his career. If he had a paper round as a child should that be included too? Smurfmeister (talk) 00:18, 9 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I know I'm late adding my opinion on this, but Primogen is correct. It is relevant for his early life. Lots of celeb bios list that celebs had other jobs before becoming a celeb. After all, not every celeb or actor was born into a acting family, like Drew Barrymore. And Smurfmeister, it does not matter if it was,in your words, Hardley a high point in his career. And if he had a paper round, that should be included also. A biography or article on Wikipedia shouldn't just list the so mentioned, high points of ones career. --BeckiGreen (talk) 23:27, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Vin Diesel, having recently filmed parts of the 'Fast and Furious 6' in Glasgow (the scenes meant to be in London essentially) and was interviewed on ScottishTV about the production by STV film critic Grant Lachlan and in this interview broadcast in May 2013 he stated he his part Scottish on his mother's side (Sinclair is a Scottish name) and he had flown his mother over and they had visited the grave of his ancestor at the famous Rosslyn Chapel near Edinburgh, where they were interned. Birth name

Just as a note... it seems unlikely that he was born "Mark Sinclair Vincent". "Vincent" is the surname of his stepfather (who I think adopted him). "Sinclair" is the surname of Diesel's mother. I see a couple of references here and there that simply state that Diesel's name was at one point "Mark Sinclair", so it's possible that he was born under that name. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 07:38, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've seen a couple of references where entertainment historians stated Vincent was his birth name (IMBD and Biography.com). But, who knows? Dkspartan1 (talk) 01:56, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The only real way it could be his birth name is if his mother married his step-father, Irving Vincent, before Diesel was born (which is possible). All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 04:37, 8 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The article listed two birth names, "Mark Sinclair or Mark Sinclair Vincent." I just removed both. An hour ago they had two citations which made no claims whatsoever about his birth name, which I replaced with conflicting latimes.com citations (a Music Blog post and an online biography database – neither clearly fact-checked to the standards of their print edition), but they were low quality citations, and according to WP:BLP claims with no high-quality reliable source should be immediately removed.
  • Mark Sinclair citation: Weiss, J (4 May 2011). "Hear Vin Diesel's 1986 rap collaboration with Arthur Russell". Los Angeles Times: Pop & Hiss, the L.A. Times Music Blog. Tribune Company. Retrieved 22 December 2013.
  • Mark Sinclair Vincent citation:Ardalani, S; Baker, N; Cramer, J; et al. "Vin Diesel". Los Angeles Times: Hollywood Star Walk. Tribune Company. Retrieved 22 December 2013. {{cite web}}: Explicit use of et al. in: |author= (help)CS1 maint: multiple names: authors list (link)
One thing that seems clear is that he used the name "Mark Sinclair" for some period when performing as a teenager. That doesn't mean it was his birth name, or legal name; it could easily have been a stage name. For anyone not familiar with US culture, it's not uncommon for children to change their last name to reflect a post-birth parental marriage or step-parent adoption, particularly in the absence of a birth father in the child's life, all of which seem to apply here. It's not unthinkable that he was born "Mark Sinclair", had a legal name change to "Mark Sinclair Vincent" early on, and later used "Mark Sinclair" as a stage name. Basically, anything is possible. And until a reliable source can be found on the topic, none of the possibilities should be stated as facts.
Agyle (talk) 15:40, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
A Premier 2001 annual compendium says he refuses to confirm his real name as Mark Vincent
Some claims of "Mark Vincent" being his birth name:
A 1986 recording of Vin Diesel ostensibly performing as Mark Sinclair blew up on the web in May 2011, and since then there have been a more claims he was born Mark Sinclair.
Agyle (talk) 17:09, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know why "Mark Sinclair" keeps being removed from the article. Do we have any evidence that Diesel's stepfather, Irving Vincent, was married to Diesel's mother at the time of Diesel's birth? If not, then he couldn't have possibly been born under the surname "Vincent". All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 00:21, 5 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

And it's official: Vin Diesel was born Mark Sinclair on July 18, 1967, in Alameda County, California. See his birth record here. His mother was herself born in Alameda, in 1943 (see this). All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 19:31, 29 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Also, here is his twin brother Paul Sinclair's birth record, on the same exact day. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 19:36, 29 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Works for me. We probably should have a line in the Birth Index footnote to the effect of "some sources give birth name of Mark Sinclair Vincent, which is at odds with state birth record" to avoid this cropping up repeatedly.--Tenebrae (talk) 19:49, 29 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's a good idea if you want to put that in. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 21:49, 29 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Mother's ethnicity

Pretty sure his mother is NOT Caucasian, but African-American. Needs to be addressed.

Diesel's mother is caucasian. He has often spoken about being raised by a caucasian mother and an African-American stepfather. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 23:09, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No, I'm pretty sure his mother is African-American. I'll fix it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.22.215.92 (talk) 22:07, 3 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
His mother is black. Why would a white woman marry divorce a black man and marry another one? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.213.193.29 (talk) 04:13, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It happens. And I'm not sure Diesel's biological parents were ever married to each other. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 00:22, 5 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Vin Diesel has a two year old son

As well as having a daughter, Vin Diesel has a son: http://www.ontheredcarpet.com/Vin-Diesel-denies-steroids-use--brings-kids-on-Tonight-Show-Video/9115461 http://ryanseacrest.com/2013/05/23/vin-diesel-says-two-year-old-son-wanted-to-watch-his-rihanna-cover-in-hospital/

Breakin' in the USA

Currently in the article there's no mention of Diesel's break dancing career or Breakin' in the USA: Break Dancing and Electric Boogie Taught by the Pros, which he stared in at the age of 16. He stated he was very proud of the video. He discuses it on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, episode 4017.--Craigboy (talk) 11:54, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Box office failure

This is an unsourced claim. Maybe a link to Box office bomb might make it clearer as a film that makes a profit (which it did based on DVD sales and world wide sales) can hardly be called a failure without some qualification. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.166.29.81 (talk) 10:21, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"Krago's Cartel" 2014

I don't see that any such film is in production; a number of actors are listed as having roles in a film by this name; the title always links to the article on the film "CBGB."

Noacesnone (talk) 04:29, 10 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There is indeed no evidence of a film with this name being in production. Removed. --Ebyabe talk - Inspector General04:51, 10 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox image

The infobox image really needs to be cropped to remove the blurry placard in the foreground. Infobox images are supposed to be free of distracting foreground and background elements, and cropping part of the bottom here would be the most practical thing. I can do it, but I'd rather let the original editor who posted it give it a try first if he or she would like to. --Tenebrae (talk) 21:24, 5 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
