Hi! welcome to Wikipedia!

Images

When uploading images please always edit the image description page and do two things:

  1. State the source of the image (the address of a web page, the title of the book or "I created this image myself.")
  2. State the copyright. The easiest way to list the copyright is to use a copyright tag. The most important tags are {{GFDL}}, {{PD}}, and {{fairuse}}. GFDL is for images that you create yourself. PD is for public domain images (either pre-1923 or released by the copyright holder). Fair use is for copyrighted images that we can use under the fair use rules in the USA.

Without proper source and copyright information, images will eventually be deleted!

You can view the image description page by clicking on an image, and edit it like any other wikipedia page: by clicking on the "edit this page" tab.

For more information:

If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know exactly where you got the images (on my talk page) and I'll tag them for you. Thanks so much.

Categories and stubs

Categories

It is a good idea to add categories to articles. You can do this by adding

[[Category: Name of category]]

at the end of your articles. Doing this will allow users to see the page when browsing a particular category. Most often, there are existing categories that your pages will fit in to. The easiest way to find this is to look for existing articles on similar and related subjects, to see what categories they are in.

Stubs

You use the {{stub}} template a lot in your articles. Marking a page as a stub is good practise, though there is a move towards using relevant topic stubs (see WP:WSS). A full list of them can be found at Wikipedia:Template messages/Stubs.

For example, if you create a stub article on an actor, rather than using the {{stub}} template, it is much better to use the {{actor-stub}} template.

Many people are going through the stub articles and marking them with a topic stub instead (again, see WP:WSS). If users use topic stubs to begin with, it makes everything easier for everyone.

Thanks

Many thanks for contributing to Wikipedia, and I hope the information given will help you towards creating and editing even better articles.

comment

Hello. In head unit, trace evidence, and some other articles, you're using too many capital letters. See my edits to those pages and Wikipedia:Manual of Style. Michael Hardy 00:27, 4 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Also, in your article Wirth Lake, I can't even tell what country the lake is in, let alone anything more specific about its location. Michael Hardy 00:28, 4 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Monarchist Corrections

I just deleted mention of the Constantian Society from your American Monarchist Party article because,as I said in my comments,I have run their email box and their website (current URL is http://www.put.com/~monarchy/ and the Tripod site is out of date) since 1999,and I've never HEARD of the American Monarchist Party you say it is part of.Neither has Don Marinelli, who remains a professor at Carnegie-Mellon University (the Shrewsbury, Massachusetts P.O. Box was rented by our Secretary-General,John Kelleher...it's probably out of date at this point as we've lost touch with him).--Louis Epstein/le@put.com/12.144.5.2 03:48, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there -- your article, Enriched limit is currently nominated for deletion. I don't know anything about the topic, but the problem seems to be that nobody can find references to the term using internet search engines. I've never seen it myself, but that doesn't mean much. Anyway, the article needs really at least one good reference to stay alive at the moment. Just letting you know. --Fastfission 02:57, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wirth Lake

Hello. Can you answer my question at talk:Wirth Lake (Oregon)? Thanks. Michael Hardy 23:07, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - I noticed you uploaded this image and it is tagged with {{GFDL-presumed}}. If you created the image, please change the tag to {{GFDL}} or another appropriate free license. If you did not create the image, or if you need help picking an appropriate license, please leave a message on my talk page. Thanks! -SCEhardT 16:37, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of American Monarchist Party

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article American Monarchist Party, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

WP:HOAX. If not, then simply WP:N.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. File source problem with File:Bellevillewasherforcediagram.JPG

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Bellevillewasherforcediagram.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 03:21, 14 March 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 03:21, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Unnamed Austin International Circuit, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Unnamed Austin International Circuit. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Sorry, I didn't mean to warn you (I deleted the warning). But if you want an article to be deleted, please mark it for speedy deletion instead of blanking. DARTH SIDIOUS 2 (Contact) 07:58, 19 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Naval Registry Identification Number, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article appears to be a copy from http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/shusn-no/spid-no.htmGrafen (talk) 08:07, 19 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

.mil is under public domain, thanks for playing! Hadlock (talk)

Thanks. I didn't know that, but I have read WP:Public domain#U.S. government works and I do now. So sorry about that.
A couple of comments about the article:
  • It would be best to rewrite the text into an encyclopedic style. For example, as a wiki article the lead would normally begin "A Naval Registry Identification Number is...", rather than "In 1916, as World War I continued abroad with undiminished ferocity..."
  • There is an inconsistency about start date between this (1916) and Hull classification symbols, which you have edited to say that NRINs started in the 1890s.
I know nothing about the content and it would probably be best if you or someone else who knows something about it addressed these issues.
Again, sorry for the misplaced copyvio warning. Grafen (talk) 08:53, 19 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Italika=

Yes, the full text last time was Italika is a Mexican company that makes and sells motorcycles established in [[Mexico City]. Another editor has removed the links to countries, currently out of fashion, and added non-breaking spaces to the measurements. The article is fine, but could be improved if you could find a source independent of the company for it being the market leader Jimfbleak - talk to me? 17:43, 13 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Problems with upload of File:Kerrvilledailytimes2009.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Kerrvilledailytimes2009.jpg. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or provided a license tag. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

To add this information, select the appropriate license tag from this list, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the information to the image's description. If you can't find a suitable license tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. If you need help, post your question on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 11:06, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
