The article "History of the Philadelphia Eagles" states that after the Eagles traded the rights to draft (this is of interest in part because this was the first draft pick ever) Berwanger to the Chicago Bears, Berwanger did not sign and play with the Bears because he wanted to go to medical school. The Jay Berwanger article states he could not come to terms with the Bears and just got a job. Berwanger did start a manufacturing company, the article says; and he must have done well as he finished his life living in a very wealthy suburb of Chicago.68.75.176.106 (talk) 05:26, 23 December 2013 (UTC)Marv Wigder 12/22/13

"He was very modest about the Heisman and used the trophy as a doorstop in his library." I don't think this is true. It would seem to have been used by Berwanger's Aunt Gussie as a doorstop. I'll leave it to better sports researchers than I, to make the necessary changes to the biography. - Checking the checkers (talk) 02:17, 29 November 2015 (UTC)

Berwanger and Lyons High School

I removed a sentence claiming that Berwanger played football and ran track at Lyons High School in west suburban Chicago. All of the sourcing I have read claims that he was born, raised, and graduated high school in Iowa. If a source can be found for this, please re-add it with the source. Doorstop

"He was very modest about the Heisman and used the trophy as a doorstop in his library." I don't think this is true. It would seem to have been used by Berwanger's Aunt Gussie as a doorstop. I'll leave it to better sports researchers than I, to make the necessary changes to the biography. - Checking the checkers (talk) 02:17, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
