In 1972, the murder of [[Communist Party of India]], secretary for Vijayawada, ''Chalasani Venkata Rathnam'' allegedly led by [[Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga]], which in turn led to the murder of Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga's elder brother, Vangaveeti Radha Krishna Murthy in 1974 by the rival group. The following events led to the alleged protracted murders of two brothers Devineni Murali in 1979, and Devineni Chandrasekhar (Gandhi) in 1988 by Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga.

Vangaveeti is a 2016 Indian Telugu-language political drama film written and directed by Ram Gopal Varma.[2][3] The film is based on the life of politician Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga, and his elder brother Vangaveeti Radha Krishna and their altercation with communist dominated Vijayawada of the 1970s-80s Andhra Pradesh.[4][2][5][6][7]

The film stars debutantes, Sandeep as Vangaveeti Radha and Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga, Vamsi Nakkanti as Chalasani Venkata Ratnam, Vamsi Chaganti as Devineni Murali, Kautilya as Devineni Gandhi, Shritej as Devineni Nehru and Naina Ganguly as Ratna Kumari.[4][8] The theatrical trailer of the film was released on October 2, 2016 in Hyderabad,[2] and the film was released on December 23, 2016.[4][9] Upon release the film received positive reviews,[10][4] and made decent openings at the box office.[5][11][12]
