Admin Coaching

Admin Coaching is a program to for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users (often, but not always, admins) who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

It is a program where experienced users help people to learn the ways of Wikipedia. While being better versed in the various contributions expected of a prospective admin will help your RfA succeed, Admin Coaching does not guarantee that you will pass the RfA. Ultimately, this is your responsibility, not the responsibility of your coach. So if you come here looking for a personal coach in order to pass RFA, you're at the wrong place.

  22. I think I'm ready to help coach. Like Ilyanep, Petros, et al, I'd want to be paired with another more experienced admin at least the first time or two. My areas of interest (see my RfA Question 1) are article edits, DYK, article deletions, policy and a little bit of reversions, so pairing with a RCP/vandal fighter might be a good choice. ++Lar: t/c 20:44, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Requests

Please add yourself here if you want to sign up for the program with ":#~~~~", and the current coordinator will contact you. Please note that there will be long delay before you are assigned coaches, due to the shortage of coaches. Priority will be given to active editors. If you have requested admin coaching and your name no longer appears on this list it either means you have been assigned coaches (see the box on the right) or your request has been put on hold until you return to active editing.
  1. I've been administrator on hungarian Wikipedia, Wikiquote, Wikibooks (+bureaucrat) and Uncyclopedia (+bureaucrat) for a long time. I work here as the maintainer of Medicine portal (featured candidate), I'm part of the Wikipedia Version 0.5 review team (scientific coordinator) and coordinator of Medicine Wikiproject. I know that I need more experiment here, but maybe one day I'd like to be admin. Thanks for help. NCurse work 10:20, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  6. I believe that I have contributed well into sports articles, including making WikiProject NBL. I hope to make an RFA run in 6-8 months. I am thinking to joining the fight in vandalism but I believe I need more training before I can start my RFA nomination. Jasrocks Talk) 09:37, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  7. I would like to improve my knowledge on Wiki editing, in particular on interpreting Wiki guidelines which may be conflicting in particular cases - but not limited to this. I have been on an exams wikibreak last month and now that I have the free time would like to improve myself. No future RfA request in mind.  VodkaJazz / talk  21:35, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  14. I started this a while back and I had to back out because of my job, but I have "finshed" my question on here from D-Day. Old "settings" here. Anyway.. that's about it. -- Shane (talk/contrib) 22:23, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  16. I'd appreciate admin coaching. At the moment, I can think of three areas I'd like guidance on: (a) in my recent unsuccessful RfA, one of the pieces of advice that stood out to me was that I need to learn to "be as Zen as possible, and seek out the center of indifference." I think I've gotten calmer and not quite so hairtrigger, but I still have a ways to go before becoming a Zen admin. (b) I have an idea for an effort to get a particular article I'd love to get going up the chain to good/featured article status (I'd like to satisfy the WP:1FA-ers), but need advice on how to gather interested editors and coordinate efforts; (c) I'd appreciate guidance or coaching to figure out various WikiProjects — preferably articlespace but also Wikipedia-namespace — where I can lend my shoulder to the grindstone in a more concentrated subject area or manner. Wikignoming is nice but a Wikipedia "home" would be useful/enjoyable, too. — Mike (talk • contribs) 21:03, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  26. I'd like some more guidance on how to go about using my time and skills more effectively on wikipedia. There are some things that seem to go over my head in this internet community.......IMHO, it's not as much of being the ideal admin as being the ideal wikipedian. I'd like to be confident in my savoir-faire of wikipedia before taking another shot at adminship. 37. I had requested some time ago, but when my time came, I was on a rather long wikibreak. I'm not sure if I look ahead to adminship, but I am certainly interested in becoming a better, more well-rounded editor in Wikipedia making value contributions not just through editing but also in times of conflicts and other issues. —Mirlen 04:30, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
