The campus is usually referred to as the Ourimbah Campus of the University of Newcastle, although the campus also houses the TAFE Hunter Institute and the Central Coast Community College. There are also several specialised research facilities and colocated businesses on site, many of which are located in the Business Incubator facility.

History

- The flat at Ourimbah was colonized by the blue gums for which it was known for some time.

- There are many sites around Ourimbah which provide evidence of Aboriginal occupation. These include axe grinding grooves, archaeological deposits of campfires and food scraps, cave art, as well as many stone implements which have been purloined by museums and privateers.

- Ourimbah achieved notoriety in January 1970 as the venue for an Australian rock festival modelled on Woodstock.

- The railway was opened on 15 August 1887. The only stations between Gosford and Wyong were Narara and Ourimbah.
