The 2019 NBA Finals is the concluding championship series of the National Basketball Association (NBA)'s 2019 playoffs to determine the champion for the 2018–19 season. In the Finals, the champions of the Eastern Conference, the Toronto Raptors, will face the champions of the Western Conference, the Golden State Warriors. The best-of-seven playoff will begin on May 30, with a seventh and final game, if necessary, on June 16.[1]

For the first time since 2013, the Eastern champions will have home court advantage in the NBA Finals, as the Eastern Conference Champion, Toronto Raptors, had a better regular-season record than the Golden State Warriors. It will be the first NBA Finals since 2014 to not have the Eastern Conference represented by the Cleveland Cavaliers, who appeared in the Finals for four straight seasons, as they failed to qualify for the 2019 playoffs. It will also be the first Finals since 2010 to not include LeBron James as a player, who participated in the Finals in each of the previous eight seasons, as the team that he played for in 2018–19, the Los Angeles Lakers, also failed to qualify for the postseason.

Background

Golden State Warriors

This will be the Golden State Warriors' fifth consecutive trip to the NBA Finals and are only the second team in NBA history to achieve this feat, after the Boston Celtics made ten straight Finals between 1957–1966. The Warriors finished the 2018–19 regular season with a 57–25 record, winning the Pacific Division and securing the 1st seed in the Western Conference. In the playoffs, Golden State defeated the Los Angeles Clippers in six games in the first round, eliminated the Houston Rockets in six games in the Western Conference semifinals, and swept the Portland Trail Blazers in four games in the Western Conference Finals.
