We need a picture

Can someone dig up a picture of Alfred Gross? There is one over at http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/iel5/62/19670/00911321.pdf?isnumber=19670&prod=STD&arnumber=911321&arnumber=911321&arSt=43&ared=44&arAuthor=Schroer%2C+R. I've sent an email to Orbital Sciences Corp to try to get permission for using the image in question on Wikipedia. The image can be seen at http://hamgallery.com/Tribute/W8PAL/Al_Gross.jpg --cslarsen 12:22, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bio and awards

He (probably) received more awards, we need to expand on that.

Also, the bio is a bit thin, as are the other sections. We need to get more sources so we can write up a better article. --- cslarsen 11:29, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I need help writing this article

The more I read about Gross, the more I realize that this article BY FAR does not give credit to his achievements. Do a search on "Al Gross" and see all the results. We need to go through all the sources and write up a really good article. Who knows, maybe we'll hit the featured article if we do things right! Or not.... --cslarsen 12:20, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Full name?

Seems his full name was actually Irving Alfred (J.?) Gross, see the VirginiaTech image database and check out the W8PAL certificate scans. If you search Google patents, you find his inventions under Irving A. Gross, see http://www.google.com/patents?q=irving+a.+gross&btnG=Search+Patents --cslarsen 10:33, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is still confused and confusing some 5+ years on. I came to this page wondering why the text reads "Alfred J. Gross... a.k.a. Irving J. Gross" and why the external link at the bottom points us to patents credited to "Irving A. Gross". Your note above explains perfectly, but the article is still misleading. 82.71.0.229 (talk) 12:03, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • His name was Irving Al Gross. It was never "Alfred," and he never had a middle name beginning with a "J." Much of his info (including the fact that he was survived by children, grandchildren great grandchildren, etc.)was simply false info perpetrated by a second wife he married a few years after my grandmother's passing in July of 1978. Apparently, she didn't like the info that he was born of Ukrainian (not Romanian) Jewish descent, nor the fact that he had a wonderful first wife (Evelyn Levine Gross) and extended family, including my mother, Ileen Gross Kathrins and my uncle, Robert Mark Gross.

Thus, I'm his granddaughter. I could (gladly) clear up all of the conflicting and false information on this page and throughout the Internet, as well as supply many photos and links to pertinent websites. And yes - I have proof of my claims. Thank you for your interest in his life and accomplishments! -Randi Kathrins—Preceding unsigned comment added by RandiPie71 (talkcontribs) 09:21, 4 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

So given the comments above from Gross's granddaughter Randi Kathrins, and substantiated by the US Patents, can we change the name of this page to "Irving Al Gross"? -rory —Preceding undated comment added 23:25, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dick Tracy

Someone had rather clumsily thrown in some info about Gross influencing Dick Tracy, that clearly didn't fit in that spot in the article and wasn't cited. I found a citation at http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/aponline/20010114/aponline215104_000.htm?noredirect=on but don't have time to properly integrate it.--TChapProctor (talk) 00:43, 11 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 7 October 2020

Alfred J. GrossIrving "Al" Gross – Irving Gross was my grandfather. You can read through all the talk on this page and see that even the original authors agree that there is no history of him ever being names Alfred or having a middle initial J. I can provided everything from birth certificates to the paperwork when he changed his name from his birth name of Isidore to Irving. The most important proof is mentioned in the texts page is that his exhibit at Virgina Tech is under the name Irving Al Gross and it is also full of paperwork and family photos that I provided Artluverr (talk) 20:55, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps I should mention, since at that time Canada was part of the British Empire, his birth certificate should be at the Public Record Office, so it is very easy for me to check with them that he was actually born etc etc, but I think this is such an obvious good-faith nomination that I don't think it's necessary. 84.236.27.182 (talk) 23:13, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
