Even "key visual" is not allowed actually, per Wikipedia:NFCC. It is here only to identify the article until the official release poster is released. |
If アーヤ (Āya) was Japanese for the name “Aya” it would be written as アヤ (Aya) , not as something which isn’t that name, as “Aya” is a Japanese name. |

Earwig and the Witch (Japanese: アーヤと魔女, Hepburn: Āya to Majo, lit. "Ear and the Witch") is an upcoming Japanese computer-animated television film produced by Studio Ghibli and directed by Gorō Miyazaki, based on the novel of the same name by Diana Wynne Jones. It is scheduled to air on NHK in December 30, 2020.
Production
Directed by Gorō Miyazaki, the film was announced as the first full 3D CG animated Ghibli film and is scheduled for a television premiere on NHK in late 2020.[2][3][4] On June 19, 2020, images from the film were revealed by Miyazaki.[5] Goro said that his father told him to go with it and Suzuki encouraged him, but after that he was left on his own and he made the anime with the young staff and that he "didn't consult with the old guys at all". He also said that he's the only one who knows the method of creating CG animation.[1]
Release
The film was scheduled set to premiere at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival before the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[6] It will be aired by NHK in December 30, 2020.[5][7]
As with Ghibli's other work, Wild Bunch holds the international sales distribution of the film.[8] On July 7, 2020, Studio Ghibli's North American distributor GKIDS announced they had acquired the North American distribution rights to the movie. It is set for a theatrical release date of early 2021 in North America.[9][10] On September 11, 2020, Wild Bunch confirmed they had purchased the distribution rights to Studio Ghibli's movies in France from previous distributor Disney,[11] and that they would handle distribution of the movie both theatrically and on home media in the country.[12]
